Absolutely awesome day delivering Surf Life Saving GB Splash school to over 70 kids, for some of whom this was their first experience of visiting the beach, wearing wetsuits and splashing in the surf! So grateful for all our volunteers who gave their time outside of their day jobs to deliver this. Thanks too to our partners who helped make the day possible IGLU Wetsuits for the wetsuits RNLI Lifeguards East Dorset Southbourne tower for their friendly interactions with the kids and helping break barriers. Thanks also to Sobo Beach for the coffees and shelter from the storm!

A BIG THANK YOU! to all of our clubbies who gave up some of their bank holiday weekend to help run morning Coastal Surveillance Patrols. With visitors arriving early and our clubhouse located at a busy gateway to the beaches at Southbourne, these voluntary patrols give us the opportunity for early intervention and advice for visitors before the paid RNLI patrols start at 10am through until 6pm.

We hope everyone enjoyed a very hot, and safe Bank Holiday weekend, and with temperatures set to stay good for the week;

Did you know??

Statistically women are less likely to receive effective CPR due to misconceptions around modesty, technique and inappropriate touching. 😞

The fantastic ladies at Southbourne Women’s Institute are helping us improve our members knowledge and confidence around female CPR by fundraising to buy some female form manakins. 😊

They will be today’s Southbourne Food & Fun Fest raising awareness and funds. We have lent them some of our current flat chested manakins and some of our members will be dropping by throughout the day to give very informal CPR demos, so if you’ve never had the opportunity to practice before here’s a really relaxed way to give it a go!

We especially loved circuits 🥵, skiing and boarding in surf and the paddle around the rocks. Special thanks to Claire & Steve for being great hosts!

Such a cracking day Saturday coming together as a club to hand out AWARDS for so many inspirational members across all sections celebrating their achievements this past year within our humble club.

We also had the chance to thank our AMAZING coaches and volunteers who give up countless hours inside and outside of club activities. Our very own club legend Jason Twinning received LIFE MEMBERSHIP status for his many years of commitment to the club, his dedication to coaching Nippers and his boundless enthusiasm and encouragement to all for all things Southbourne Surf Life Saving!!

Training hard (and the infamous Southbourne shorey!) sure takes its toll on our kit, but thanks to the magic of Tom Wood at Komplete Surf Repair in Sway our kit is good to go ready for the new season! 🌊🌊Thanks Tom, we promise we’ll look after it all!

It’s here! Thanks to our Nipper’s “Pound a mile” Swimathon our new kit has arrived ready for the 2026 season! And with Civil Aviation Authority sign off finally through we can at last use our roof space for the purpose it was designed for 😊

So sad that just as community groups start get themselves ready for a summer full of smiles and safety on the water other people are out ruining things for everyone 😡😡😡😢

‼️Break in at HHO - calling for community support‼️

Last night thieves broke into HHO and stole valuable equipment from the Scouts and Sailing Club. We are all shocked at such antisocial behaviour against the community. We are appealing to everyone to help us track down the stolen equipment.

Please look out for anyone trying to sell on social media or online selling sites. Details are;

Tonight, at the annual SLSGB Sumit, three of our members were awarded “Heroes Of The Surf” for a rescue performed off Southbourne beach in summer 2025.
The awards were inspirational, we witnessed surf life savers who performed amazingly in difficult and pressured situations, all of them nominated for saving lives.
We are very proud of Jemima, Jacob and Ian who worked together to save a life ❤️🙌🏻
