This week across the country, young people will be sitting their SATs, which will be quickly followed by GCSEs, A-levels and 11+ exams... but are we putting too much pressure on our children to be high achievers.

Exam pressure can significantly affect mental health, leading to anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and reduced overall well-being. With pressures arises from multiple sources, including high expectations from parents, teachers, peers, and self-imposed standards.

Many students often fear failure, and compare themselves with classmates, which intensifies stress levels and contributes to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.

Our courses at The Shine Project help young people to build healthy coping mechanisms and develop their emotional resilience, whilst also promoting their physical and mental health.

If you are a school and would like to learn more about what we can offer, please get in contact, or visit our website: https://www.shineproject.org.uk/.

It's not very often that you read a post on social media that captures the true essence of what your charity is thriving to achieve through working with young people.

- Half of all mental health conditions begin before age 14. Yet many go unnoticed for years.

Not because the signs are absent. Because too often we do not recognise them, or know how to respond when they appear.

In children and young people, distress rarely looks like the textbook image of sadness. It may show up as behaviour change, falling grades, headaches, sleep problems, anxiety, withdrawal, irritability, or suddenly going quiet.

The evidence is clear: early identification, timely support and interventions can significantly improve long-term outcomes. Delays can affect education, relationships, confidence, and physical health well into adulthood.

After 12 wonderful years with The Shine Project, Liz has decided that the time is right to step down from the charity to concentrate on her own projects with .

We cannot thank Liz enough for everything she has done over the years, we know that she has influenced so many children through her courses and helped maintain the charity from behind the scenes.

We will miss her dearly, but wish her all the luck and love for her next chapter (which we hope will involve some 'me time'!).

We've come to the end of one of our Shine courses with a lovely group of girls. Our last session focuses on what they would like for their future, planting seeds and looking back at everything they have achieved over the 8 weeks.

It's so empowering to watch our groups grow in confidence, build new friendships and discover amazing things about themselves. Little steps really can lead to something amazing and we wish all our groups coming to the end of their courses all the success for the future!
