Soroptimist International Bournemouth and the Students Union at the Arts University Bournemouth Arts University Bournemouth | AUB , with support from BCP Council BCP Council , are marking the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence with an exhibition in Gather at the Dolphin Centre, Poole from November 14th to 20th. 🎨

The work presented in the last three years was impressive— thought-provoking, profound and fascinating — and it looks like we will have an excellent turnout again this year.

🌳💙 The Club at Meyrick Park was the venue for a well-supported quiz night helping SIB to raise funds. The quiz master donates all the proceeds of the raffle to a different charity each time and SIB were the happy recipients on October 26th. 🎟️

We raised £185 for the club but, possibly as importantly, there were 4 teams with Bournemouth Soroptimist members, and the first 3 places were taken by our teams! 🏆🥇🥈🥉

The event also provided an opportunity for our secretary to tell the community a bit about the good work Soroptimists do. 💙

Congratulations to all who participated and a big thanks to the staff at Meyrick Park. A great outcome! 👏

🏃‍♀️🏃 🏃‍♂️ 💦 SI Bournemouth once again staffed a hydration station at the Bournemouth Run on Sunday October 11th 2026 to raise funds for the club. 💸 Many SI members, family and friends turned up to hand out bottles of water to the more than 5000 runners who were very appreciative. Having learned from the past years’ experience, we asked for more tables and made sure we had plenty of helpers on the day to ensure smooth running of the event. 💧 We were also asked to help on another station and were able to provide support there increasing our income on the day. Our contribution was highly valued and the excellent organisation praised. We raised £750 for club funds that will be used to support several of our current projects, increasing our impact. 💙

🤗 SIB was delighted to welcome Jenny Budden as our newest member at the meeting on September 21st.
Alison Davis introduced her to the club and Acting President Lisa Maw presented her with her badge, induction pack and a very warm welcome. 🤝
Jenny shared some of her past and it was clear that her experience has prepared her to be an excellent Soroptimist. We look forward to achieving things together. 💙

🍃 The second phase of the ‘Greening Bournemouth’ initiative took place on Saturday October 3rd in the Triangle following on from the Beale Place refresh in July. A group of volunteers from the Bournemouth Citizens’ Panel, Soroptimist International Bournemouth, Garden Buddies and BCP Council replanted the three large planters with plants from Cherry Tree Nursery , also giving the area a clean up and face lift. 🌱 The BID funded the plants and three local businesses- Flirt Cafe, Howden Insurance Brokers and Venezy- have each adopted a planter and will maintain them by watering, weeding and tending to them. A great improvement to the area at a time when local businesses and police have been working to make the Triangle a safer and more desirable ‘go to’ part of town. Good news! 🌾🪻🌸

Visit to Cherry Tree Nursery 🌳🌸

Having had a talk in the club about the work of a local nursery with a difference, nine members of SIB went for a visit on September 7, 2026. Cherry Tree Nursery Cherry Tree Nursery in Bournemouth is a mental health charity and plant nursery that uses therapeutic horticulture to help adults with life-impacting mental health conditions recover their well-being and gain a sense of purpose. 🌱

💚 The Community Liaison Officer for Plants and Minds, the charity that runs both Cherry Tree and Chestnut Nursery in Poole, was on hand to show us around. Unusually, virtually all the plants on sale are grown on site; cuttings are taken from mature plants to start new ones and these are nurtured to produce high-quality plants familiar with the climactic environment, so they do very well once planted in the area. It provides work experience for approximately 80 service users who benefit considerably from the opportunity, with some going on to gain employment as a result. A delightful afternoon and such a worthwhile organisation. 🌿

Summer Soiree 2026 ⛱️☀️🌸

Every July, SIB holds our monthly meeting as a social event inviting partners, friends, ex members and interested parties. 📅
We have fish and chips, games, and seek voluntary donations that we can gift aid now that we are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. 🍟🐠
There were three games organised by the Planet Group this year- a crossword puzzle to do with conservation (judged as too tricky by most!), a flower anagram puzzle that certainly made everyone think and a ‘choose the lucky flowerpot’ with small prizes to be won. The money raised this year went to the Planet Group to support their projects as well as to the club account; we raised a total of £340! 🎲📝💸

Thank you to our host member, Angie, for sharing her lovely home and to our friends, family, and alumnae for fully getting stuck in on the evening to have fun and to support the club. 💙

🎤 Fifth Successful Harmony Conference

On June 10th 2026 SIB members attended the fifth ‘Creating Health and Harmony in the Community’ conference at Bournemouth University (BU) with the theme of education. 📚 The guests were welcomed by the Bombay Dance Group presenting a lively and colourful medley of traditional Indian dances. 🎖️ His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Michael Dooley, led the day with support from Professor Alison Honour, Vice Chancellor of BU offering a warm welcome. Participants were treated to a taster of the recent documentary ‘Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision’ and encouraged to watch it in full on Amazon Prime. 👦 Notable speakers included Dr Alex Blower Alex Blower talking about how education can fail working class boys and an inspirational presentation by Padmasini Dayananda about girls moving from the classroom to the boardroom. The members who attended, enjoyed the diverse sessions and participated in the exhibition to spread the news about the club.
