⭐ **THE BDJLD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING NOTICE** ⭐

The BDJLD invites all members to attend our Annual General Meeting/ Special General Meeting at 6pm on 30 October 2024.

The AGM will be taking place at Steele Raymond, Richmond Point, 43 Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, BH2 6LR.

During the AGM we will be holding elections for our 2024-2025 committee roles. If you want to apply then please have a look at our roles on our website and send your application to [email protected] using the following guidelines:

· Please use Word format and limit your application to a maximum of 500 words.
· Please state your name, firm, area of expertise and the role you are applying for.
· Then set out why you would like to apply for the role and why you would fit the role.
· Please send in your application by 6pm on 23 October 2024.

You may apply for more than one role if you wish. All members are welcome to attend the AGM if they RSVP to this email, whether or not you are running for any role.

Tickets for our 2024 Summer Ball are now available! This event has kindly been sponsored by 3PB Barristers 🥂

The deadline for purchasing tickets is 4pm THIS FRIDAY (28 June).

This year’s Summer Ball is taking place at the Hilton in Bournemouth from 7pm. Expect a welcome drink on arrival and a 3-course meal with w**e on the table. 🍷

Live music will be playing after dinner and a photobooth will be available for all to use throughout the night. 🎶

Tickets are avaliable on a first come, first served basis so book early to avoid disappointment!

The price will be £50 for members and £60 for non-members. Multiple tickets can be purchased at once, but please let the designated purchaser know your food choices beforehand. The options are as follows:

Starter:
1. Tea smoked duck breast with soy and ginger glaze, wild rice and pickled cucumber (GF)
2. Dorset crab cake with fennel, radish and dill salad, lemon and saffron aioli
3. Roasted asparagus and sun blush tomato bruschetta with olive tapenade dressing (VG)

Main:
1. Lemon, thyme and honey glazed chicken supreme with caramelised onion purée, leeks, mushrooms and herb crushed potatoes (GF)
2. Roast Cornish hake fillet with sweetcorn purée, kale champ potato, roast shallots, maple bacon crisp and Jerez vinegar (GF) (there is the option to order this with or without bacon)
3. Tamarind aubergine steak with tomato salsa, tamarind jus, crispy onions and pomegranate molasses (VG)

Dessert:
1. Trio of desserts - Warm chocolate pot, salted caramel torte and double chocolate ice cream (V)
2. Tropical fruit pavlova, carpaccio of rum roasted pineapple and toasted coconut (VG, GF)
3. Vanilla pannacotta, blackberry and cassis compote with a scone crumb

Howzaaaaat….The BDJLD and South Hampshire Junior Lawyers Division are pleased to collab and invite you to their first T20 Cricket event. 🏏

The match in question will be between Hawks v Sussex Sharks Vitality Blast who will looking to bat their way to victory! 🦈 🦅

The BDJLD invites you to escape with us at Escape Hunt, BH2 Leisure Bournemouth on 7 March 2024 at 6:30pm! 🗝

Race against the clock at Escape Hunt to escape one of their escape rooms within 60 minutes. If you are a novice or an expert at escape rooms, it doesn’t matter, please join us to make our escape and meet new people!

Date: Thursday 7 March 2024
Time: 6:30pm to approximately 7:45pm
Venue: Escape Hunt, Unit No 44, BH2 Leisure, Exeter Crescent, Bournemouth, BH2 5AU

Tickets are £20 for members and £25 for non-members. There is a bar at the venue if you would like a drink whilst you are escaping! There is an option to let us know if you have completed one of their escape rooms previously when purchasing your ticket.

After a busy start to the year, we have been reflecting on the BDJLD events of the last year. We wanted to take the time to express gratitude to our Charity of the Year 2023, Sheltered Work Opportunities Project (SWOP).

As many of you who attended our events last year are now familiar, SWOP provides an invaluable service for adults with severe and enduring mental illness. They support people in a variety of tasks in the running of the Cherry Tree Nursery. 🌳

We are very grateful for the time given by the SWOP members, and in particular to Maria Tidy, the Community Liaison Officer.

We are proud to have raised £1,300 to their mission over 2023.

Thank you to all our members, non-members and sponsors over the year who attended and supported our events and enabled us to raise this amount for charity. 👏

If you are looking to start off your 2024 health kick, join our weekly run taking place every other Thursday in January and February! 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

This event is suitable for everyone, whether you consider yourself a beginner or a keen marathon runner. There will be runners of all abilities.

When? Every other Thursday in January and February, starting 11 January 2024 (11th January, 25th January, 8th February and 22nd February). Arrive at 6:15pm ready to set off at 6:30pm.

Where? Bournemouth Pier, outside of Aruba. Committee members Abba Atkin and Abi Griffin will be leading the session so look out for them!

What? As a group we will complete 5km either running, walking, or jogging. Beginner or advanced, everyone is welcome. We will set off as a group from Bournemouth Pier and then split off at different paces, so do not worry there will be a right pace for everyone. The halfway point will be Alum Chine where we will then turn around for the home stretch back to Bournemouth Pier, but don’t panic if you do not feel like you can make the full distance you can always turn back sooner!

This event is suitable for players of all abilities and is the perfect opportunity for golfers to hone in on their golfing credentials. The Professional Golfers’ Association Pros will be on hand to give pointers. 🏌‍♂️ 🏌‍♀️

When? 29 January 2024 (Arrival 6pm – 6.30pm until 9pm) ⏲

Where? Christchurch Golf Club, Riverside Avenue, Christchurch, Bournemouth, BH7 7ES.

What? Access to both the inside simulators and the outdoor driving range. Optional pizza will be served at 8pm. 🍕
