Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs Helpful Hounds is a charity that provides assistance and support dogs for young people with Autism,and people with physical needs

In addition, we embed Assistance Dogs in Schools that are “Special Needs” or have Special Needs Students. The Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs website gives details of the services we offer, including our “Owner Trained Programme”. We currently work in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Surrey. 🔥🥵 There's another heatwave coming!

We know you care about your furry friend, so here's a few tips to keep them safe when the temperature rises...

☑️ Walk your dog early (and we mean EARLY) or be prepared to skip it altogether
☑️ Keep the heat out of the house, especially South facing windows and doors
☑️ Offer your dog a refreshing treat
☑️ Use ice cubes with mature dogs (under supervision to avoid choking)
☑️ Keep their bodies cool with water or specifically designed coats
☑️ Watch out for heat stroke!

⭐ Little Waffle’s first training trip in a supermarket and what a star she is. We worked on some focus exercises beforehand and these really laid the foundations for Waffle to be calm, confident and focussed.

🐕‍🦺 Waffle is fairly new to Helpful Hounds but is already flying. Her medical alerts and responses are also proving very effective and are reducing hospital admissions for the family.

👏🏼 We're so proud of Waffle’s family as they’re so dedicated to training.

This evening, Bodhi & Frank the Tank have been enjoying another lesson with Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs head of welfare and behaviour trainer Keren! Frank is now an official autism assistance dog in training and he’s doing amazing with the training!! Helpful Hounds are an official charity that specialises in autism assistance dogs. Keren has been busy building a profile on Bodhi, his spectrum and sensory needs differences and then working with Frank how to meet Bodhi’s needs on a day to day basis and in times of crisis! It won’t be long now until Frank takes his Public Access Test and will then be an official autism assistance dog!

Today, we pause to remember the beloved pets and assistance dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge.🌈

As pet lovers ourselves, our staff, trainers and volunteers know the extraordinary bond between humans and animals. They are loyal friends, trusted partners, and cherished members of the family. Their love, comfort, and devotion continue to inspire us long after they are gone.

On this Pet Memorial Day, we honour all the dogs (and all the other pets too) who have changed lives, offered unconditional love, and brought joy to every day.

If you would like to remember a special pet or assistance dog, we'd love to hear about them in the comments. ❤️

Newly Qualified Helpful Hound Haze is now living full-time in her residential support accomodation. This week, she's been on a surprise Spa Break by train 🚂
