Another Fantastic Night at Toastmasters! 🎤✨

Last night we hosted our latest in‑person Toastmasters meeting, and what an incredible evening it was!

This week featured our International Speech and Evaluation Contests, bringing out some truly inspiring performances.

We kicked off with a brilliantly chaired contest led by Stuart, keeping the evening running smoothly from start to finish.

Our speakers gave us plenty to think about:

Marina delivered her captivating speech “Me, English and Eliza Doolittle”, exploring language, identity, and self‑expression.

Izaaz followed with his humorous and relatable speech “Going Cold Turkey.”

We also enjoyed Karim Sorush’s motivating speech “Make a Difference.”

The Evaluation Contest brought even more energy. Sophie, Izaaz, and Rachel each delivered thoughtful evaluations of Karim’s speech.

It was a packed room, several guests in attendance, and unsurprisingly, very little of Matt’s cake left by the end!

Looking forward to the next one already!

What an Inspiring Start to 2026!

Last night, we held our first in-person Toastmasters meeting of the year and what a brilliant evening it was! We were treated to four fantastic speeches:

✨ Sophie kicked things off with her Icebreaker, “The Day Pamela Was Shot” a truly inspiring speech that set the tone for the night.

😂 Rachel followed with “Don’t Start with a Joke,” sharing her perspective on humour and how it shapes our stories.

🚗 Izaaz had us laughing with “A Scary New Year’s Holiday,” reminding us all why it’s best not to drink too much water before a long car journey!

💪 Jaynie wrapped up the evening with “Pulling Myself Up (Quite Literally),” a motivating account of building strength and resilience.

A great evening and valuable lessons, especially on the importance of vocal projection. Congratulations to all our speakers and award winners.

Our next meeting is online on 11th February. Guests are always welcome

Let's take moment to recognise someone truly special in our club — Barbara Saph, a two-time Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)! 🎉

Barbara’s dedication, leadership, and generosity have left a lasting impact on everyone she’s worked with. Whether she’s mentoring new members, offering thoughtful feedback, or leading by example, she brings energy, encouragement, and excellence to everything she does.

Earning the Distinguished Toastmaster title once is a huge achievement — doing it twice is a testament to Barbara’s commitment to growth, learning, and helping others reach their potential.

Thank you, Barbara, for everything you contribute to our club and for inspiring us all to keep striving for improvement, both as speakers and leaders. 🌟

🎤 From animals to holidays — our club contest had it all! 🐾✈️

Last week, we held our Toastmasters Club Contest, and it was an evening full of creativity, confidence, and laughter. Members delivered fantastic speeches that took us on journeys through the animal kingdom, travel adventures, and personal reflections — each one unique and engaging in its own way.

👏 Congratulations to Issaz, winner of the Speech Contest, and Rachel, winner of the Table Topics Contest! Both showed composure, humour, and great storytelling — a true showcase of what Toastmasters helps members develop.

Contests are just another aspect of Toastmasters — an opportunity to challenge yourself, step outside your comfort zone, and celebrate growth in a supportive community. Whether you’re competing, judging, or cheering from the audience, every role adds something special to the experience.

A big thank-you to everyone who took part, helped organise, and supported the event. The energy and encouragement from the room truly captured what Toastmasters is all about. 🌟

🌟 Meet Vicci! 🌟

This week, Vicci delivered her Icebreaker speech — the very first step in the Toastmasters journey — and she made it unforgettable.

She shared her story with warmth, honesty, and plenty of humour, keeping everyone engaged from start to finish. It was a great reminder that public speaking can be authentic, entertaining, and deeply human all at once.

Watching members take that first step is always inspiring, and we look forward to seeing Vicci grow with the club!

If you’ve ever wanted to build confidence, share your story, and have fun while doing it — Toastmasters is the place to start.

🌟 Meet Marina! 🌟

Over the past year, Marina has fully engaged with Toastmasters — delivering speeches, providing evaluations, participating in contests, and now contributing on the committee. Her commitment and willingness to take on different roles have been impressive and inspiring.

Her journey demonstrates how Toastmasters offers opportunities to develop communication and leadership skills in a practical, hands-on way. By getting involved in all aspects of the club, Marina has grown both as a speaker and as a leader, while also supporting and encouraging others along the way.

It’s been great to see her take on new challenges and make the most of everything Toastmasters has to offer. If you’re thinking about joining, Marina’s experience is proof that getting involved is the best way to grow — professionally and personally.
