Thanks to Grimsthorpe Castle for inviting our Town Hall Histories volunteers and Community Play script writers to the talk today by History with Amy.
It was fascinating and a great background setting to digest for our research and play, both part of the Activity Plan within our project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

🏰 Lecture: The Theatre of the Feast - Power and Excess in the Georgian Dining Room with Dr Amy Boyington ( also known as )

As part of the Vanbrugh300 Free Lecture Series, visitors can step back into the 1700s and into the most important room in Britain: the country house dining room. In this engaging talk, Dr. Amy Boyington pulls back the velvet curtains on the ‘theatre of the feast’ to reveal how the Georgian elite used architecture, art, and an almost religious devotion to excess to cement their social standing.

We’re incredibly grateful to Ricky Locke who gave us an hour of his time to amaze us all with magic - we’re still trying to figure out how he did it!

Another of our volunteer researchers, Diz Lamb, has been featured in an episode of the BBC Secret Lincolnshire podcast.
As part of the Town Hall Histories project, Diz looked into the story of Dr John Willis, one of the subscribers to Bourne Town Hall in 1821.
Our subscriber’s father was Dr Francis Willis, said to have cured the madness of King George III.

Our project is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are grateful to players for making this possible.
