Situated in the beautiful Northumberland coastal village of
Boulmer . The village has a long record of heroic rescues at sea, since the village was first furnished with one of the first lifeboats by the Duke of Northumberland back in 1825. Making it one of the earliest stations in the country and with a standing number of rescues totalling well over 230 lives rescued
However in 1967 the RNLI decided to withdraw the service, and other smaller stations at Holy Island and Caister in Norfolk, sparking the community to buy its own private rescue boat and continue the tradition of saving lives at sea. Now, more than three decades on, the fishing village is acknowledged once again by the Coastguard as a recognized Declared Rescue Facility. At present the lifeboat facility operates during daylight hours, weekends and bank holidays only, this is due to small crew numbers and a lack of vessel traffic warranting a full time lifeboat during the week off Boulmer. Many bravery awards have been presented to us over the years, the most recent being the award of a silver plate by the Department of Transport and Industry to the Boulmer Lifeboat crew for their part in a dramatic rescue involving the vessel Nordboen and helicopters from the RAF Search and Rescue Flight stationed at Boulmer.
