💜 A gentle reminder for our Teacher Workshop tomorrow evening 💛
If you’re a teacher, teaching assistant, SENCO or anyone working with children and young people, we’d love to welcome you to our Dysregulation Workshop tomorrow from 5.00–6.00pm at our South Square office, Boston.
We know the football is on ⚽, so we’ve kept the session to just one hour. Think of it as an opportunity to pause before the evening, enjoy a cuppa, and spend time with others who understand the challenges of supporting children every day.
This is a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where we can share good practice, explore what lies beneath behaviour, and learn from one another. There is no pressure ust connection, conversation and support.
At Unique Hope, we believe that when we support the adults, we strengthen the support around the child.
We’d love to see you there. 💜💛

💛💜Our last coffee morning of this academic year and so lovely to connect with regular and new faces …. Simon from Conquest school gave a fantastic presentation which led to some really interesting and insightful conversations around EHCP’s ….. For example : How can a parent apply? Does it need to come from the school ? ……. We have decided to do our next workshop on this subject to support parents and teachers who can get overwhelmed with the process ……
We then went for a beautiful walk in our secret garden to calm and cool from the warm morning …….
Thank you to everyone that came …. Thank you to FIKA for hosting us and thank you to Simon and his team for engaging with us and building a meaningful connection …… 💜💛

Another enlightening workshop this evening exploring the topic of Dysregulation………..
It was wonderful to welcome both familiar and new faces as we spent time learning together, sharing experiences, and reflecting on what may lie beneath a child’s behaviour.
Behaviour is communication. When we begin to look beyond what we see on the surface, we start to understand the emotions, experiences, and unmet needs that may be driving it.
This evening we discussed some of the causes of dysregulation, explored what can sit beneath behaviour, and shared practical coping and regulation strategies that can support children, young people, and the adults around them.
One of the resources I use regularly in the therapy room is the Emotion Wheel. It’s such a powerful visual reminder that children often experience a huge range of emotions but simply don’t yet have the words, confidence, or sense of safety to express them. Helping children name their feelings is often the first step towards helping them regulate them.
At Unique Hope, we believe that the more we educate ourselves, the more compassion we can bring to our homes, classrooms, and communities. Every conversation matters, and every child deserves to be understood, not just managed.
If you’d like to continue these conversations and connect with like-minded parents, carers and professionals, we’d love to see you at our Unique Hope Coffee Morning this Sunday at 10:30am at FIKA, Red Lion Street, Boston. This month’s guest speaker is the Headteacher of Conquest, a new independent special school, who will be sharing their vision and answering your questions.
Together, we learn. Together, we grow. Together, we create hope. 💜💛

Today, Jo and I had the privilege of connecting with another vital system in our community the justice system by attending the Rewriting the Story conference at Lincoln University hosted by North Sea Camp.

At Unique Hope, we believe that to support people well, we need to understand the systems that impact their lives. Today’s conference focused on the experiences of children who have a parent or close family member in prison, and the role education plays in supporting them.

We explored questions that every school could be asking:
• Does the school know a child is affected by parental imprisonment?
• How is that information shared safely and sensitively?
• What support is offered?
• What impact does it have on a child’s learning, behaviour, wellbeing and sense of belonging?

One thing became very clear many children carry this experience in silence because of the fear of judgement and stigma. Behind a change in behaviour, poor attendance or emotional dysregulation may be a child trying to cope with something they don’t yet have the words to explain.

As a community, we want to move away from shame, assumptions and perceptions and instead ask, “What might this child be carrying?”

Today’s learning has strengthened our understanding of how Unique Hope can support not only parents and carers navigating these incredibly difficult circumstances, but also teachers and professionals who want to better understand the impact and respond with compassion rather than judgement. Sometimes, the greatest support we can offer is helping people know where to turn, providing education, and creating safe spaces where families feel heard instead of hidden.

We are committed to continually educating ourselves, learning from lived experiences and working alongside education, health, social care and the justice system, because when we understand a child’s story, we are far better equipped to support their future.

Every child deserves to be seen for who they are not for the circumstances they find themselves in. 💜💛
