Swindon Stroke Support Group

Swindon Stroke Support Group A local support group providing friendship and a varied programme of social activities for all those affected by Stroke. What is Swindon Stroke Support Group?

https://www.facebook.com/swindonstrokesupportgroup/ A VOLUNTARY SUPPORT GROUP started in 1981 by our founder John Oram after personally suffering a stroke. A friendly bunch of like minded people
The Group became a registered charity 1998

What are its aims? To improve the quality of life of stroke sufferers and their carers
To prove that there is life after a stroke
Keen to make the b

est of what life has to offer

Where does it meet? At the Methodist Church Hall, Ermin Street, Stratton St. Margaret SN3 4BT
There is ample parking, easy access, and accessible toilet facilities

When does it meet? Every Thursday evening, between 7 and 9pm throughout the year, except a short break at Christmas

Is Transport provided? Wherever possible. Please make contact to register your needs
We currently use 2 Community Transport accessible minibuses to transport our members to and from the social evenings, and demand appears to always exceed the availability
Those persons with their own transport are immediately welcome

What does it cost? There is no joining fee
If you decide to come on a regular basis there is small charge of 50p per evening and an additional 50p if transport provided
There is a raffle each week, the prizes for which are donated by members
We rattle our 'penny jar' each week for those unwanted coppers! All outings are subsidised as are our holidays

What do we do? Our weekly social evenings involve a chat, tea and biscuits, a game of cards, dominoes, scrabble, quizzes, bingo and anything else we can think of! A local trip out most months of the year
A few days out each year including a midday meal
Annual Holiday
Regular Newsletter
You name it and we will attempt to make it happen (No Bungie Jumping!)

How do we do it? With a wonderful team of volunteer drivers, escorts, carers, helpers and organisers who donate in excess of 4,000 hours between them each year to make it all happen
We aim to raise approx Β£10,000 each year to make our
activities happen, particularly to pay for accessible transport
Through an elected Management Committee and Charity. Swindon Stroke Support Group is supported by

The Midcounties Co-operative and Stratton St Margaret's Parish Council. Any further info please contact us through our website www.swindonstrokesupportgroup.btck.co.uk
