Farewell to the Garrison Festival

Farewell to the Garrison Festival The Army are leaving Whitehill & Bordon after 100 years. Join the farewell celebrations on 27 June 2015 at the Farewell to the Garrison Festival.

After being based in Whitehill & Bordon, Hampshire for over 100 years, the Army will be leaving Whitehill & Bordon in 2015 to relocate to Lyneham in Wiltshire. To mark this milestone in the history of Whitehill & Bordon, Whitehill Town Council in partnership with the Bordon Garrison is planning a ‘Farewell to the Garrison Festival’. The Festival will take place on 27th June 2015. In the morning at

the Town War Memorial, the Town Council Mayor will bestow the ‘Freedom of the Town’ on the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). This will be received by General Figgures CB CBE. There will also be the formal raising of the flag for National Armed Forces Day with soldiers from 10 Training Battalion REME on parade. From Noon there will be a joint military/civilian ‘Farewell Festival’ on Budds Lane Sports Fields to include arena events, military displays, side shows, entertainment, activities, historical information, food & drink and a fun-fair. The event, which will embrace community and civilian life in the town, will be brought to a close at approximately 5pm by the ‘Beating of the Retreat’ ceremony performed by the Military band.
