Thank you for your support! Moderation guidelines
The RSPCA is here for animals and we’d love our page to reflect this. There are so many important animal welfare messages to get across and discussions to be had; we’ve got a few guidelines to ensure all this important stuff doesn’t get lost! To help us keep animal welfare at the top of the agenda, please don’t post any:

• violent, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist posts, links or images
• comments that threaten or defame any person or organisation
• solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial or not-for-profit organisations.
• comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity
• multiple successive off-topic or disruptive posts
• repetitive posts copied and pasted or duplicated
• posts containing specific details about cruelty cases (these should be reported to the cruelty line on 0300 1234 999, rather than posted here)
• posts which we feel may potentially impact upon prosecutions. Where an investigation is considered ‘active’, any comments made about the case may mean someone facing charges might not be in a position to have a fair trial and the trial could collapse. We reserve the right to delete any of these types of comments, or ban any user who infringes these guidelines. In addition to this, individuals who seek to persistently antagonise our supporters, and accounts which are suspected to be false profiles created with the intention of breaching a ban and persistently antagonising RSPCA supporters, will be removed from the page.

Patrick’s vision and dedication were instrumental in establishing Kirklees Valley Wildlife Rescue.
He and his colleagues are truly deserving recipients of the James Newton Memorial Trophy from the RSPCA Bolton Branch. Through his commitment, the centre provides essential care, rehabilitation, and release for thousands of sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals across Greater Manchester each year. This support extends not only to public, local branches, but also to veterinary practices and the Inspectorate.
His tireless efforts have made a lasting impact on local wildlife welfare—giving countless animals a second chance and inspiring others to protect and respect the natural world.
On behalf of everyone, please accept this award as a sincere thank you for all that you do.

News from Defra for XL Bully owners ❗

From 1st July 2026, the legal requirement to hold third-party insurance will be removed. Owners must keep their third-party public liability insurance in place until at least 30th June 2026 for their Certificate of Exemption to remain valid.

Owners must continue to comply with all other conditions of their Certificate of Exemption at all times. This includes important safeguards such as keeping dogs muzzled and on a lead in public, and ensuring they are kept securely and responsibly at home.

Read more on Defra's website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ban-on-xl-bully-dogs

N.B. We are sharing this information from Defra to support XL Bully owners. We do not agree with Breed Specific Legislation, and continue to lobby for a holistic approach to responsible dog ownership. Dogs should not be banned purely based on looks over behaviour - it is unfair, unscientific, and doesn't protect the public against dog bites.
