We are a friendly club with members of various levels of experience and ability. Club sessions focus on introducing beginners to kayaking and canoeing through weekly training sessions by our qualified coaches, outdoors in summer and in a swimming pool in winter. We also run trips throughout the year on lakes, canals and rivers; some of these trips may be on more advanced water to allow you to prog

ress your skills. We also organise occasional weekend camps away and usually have a Summer Fun day both on and off the water for Juniors and Adults. We meet weekly on Monday evenings: in summer at High Rid reservoir in Horwich and during winter in the swimming pool at Westhoughton Leisure Centre.

On Valentine's Day, a group of adventurous members swapped roses for paddles and hit the River Eden! 🚣‍♂️🌹
With expert guidance from Chris Brain, we had an unforgettable day on the water, embracing the spirit of adventure and camaraderie. Who says Valentine’s Day is just for flowers when you can have the thrill of the river? 💪🌊

A brilliant (and bracing!) day out on the River Lune in January for a few of our Bolton Canoe Club paddlers. Big water, cold air and plenty to work on – exactly what winter coaching should be about.

Huge thanks to Chris Brain for leading the session and keeping us challenged all day. From refining boat control and line choice to building confidence in pushy water, there was loads to take away (along with slightly numb fingers!).

Great effort from everyone who got involved – winter miles make summer smiles.

Great Session at the pool tonight, a friendly(ish) but extremely competitive polo game followed by three team challenge races for the last 15 minutes. Safe to say, everyone had a blast. Thanks to the support from Becky, Colin and Mike.

🍂 Autumn Paddle & Cake! ☕🍰

What a brilliant day out on High Rid Reservoir! Plenty of splashing, laughter and a well-aimed water gun made for a fun autumn paddle. 🚣‍♀️💦

Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards all out in force — great to see everyone enjoying the water before warming up with a brew and some delicious cake.

Huge thanks to Becky for organising another fantastic club event! 🙌

Great to be back at Westhoughton Pool for our first Bolton Canoe Club polo session of the winter season! 🛶💦

Fantastic to see everyone back in the water (some literally) and enjoying some lively games.

We’ll be running these polo sessions on the first Monday evening of each month for all members over winter as we keep our skills sharp indoors.

🚣‍♀️🌊 What a Saturday! 🌊🚣‍♂️

Our Intro Day at High Rid Reservoir was a splash 💦 — paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing all in one morning!

Everyone smashed their Paddle UK Start Award 🏅 and kicked off their 30-day trial with Bolton Canoe Club.

Big cheers to our amazing volunteer coaches and bank support 🙌 — and an even bigger shout-out to the brilliant bunch of new paddlers who made it such a fun day. Loads of smiles, teamwork and a few wobbles along the way 😅.

🚣‍♀️ Club Trip to Ullswater 🚣‍♂️

What a fantastic day out on Ullswater! We set off from Waterside House, paddling kayaks and paddleboards north to the mouth of the River Eamont, then across the north shore past the ferry terminal. From there, we made our way down the east coast before heading back to Waterside House for a well-earned lunch stop. 🥪

In the afternoon, we went back out for another couple of hours on the water. Some of the group even braved the waves from wake-boarding boats and the ferry – great fun and a real test of balance before the wind picked up! 🌊🚤

We wrapped up with some food at the pub and plenty of smiles all round. A brilliant day with great company – thanks to everyone who came along. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure! 🙌

Regular Monday Night Paddle 🛶

The weather was kind this evening with calm, still water — although the water level was so low that Steve could almost paddle under the pier without ducking!

A fantastic time was had by both juniors and adults alike. Great paddling, great company, and plenty of smiles all round.

☀️ Another Glorious Evening on the Water! 🚣‍♂️🌊

A stunning sunny Monday brought out smiles, splashes and skills as Bolton Canoe Club hit the water once again! With crystal-clear skies and golden sunlight dancing off the surface, it was a perfect evening for our regular club session.

From beginners to seasoned paddlers, everyone made the most of the warm weather — navigating the mini slalem course, sharing laughs, and enjoying the reservoir as the sun set behind us. 🧡

🚣‍♀️ Congratulations to Our New Discover Award Paddlers! 🏅

A massive well done to the 8 members of Bolton Canoe Club who completed their Paddle Discover Award on Monday! 🛶 We had a fantastic evening out on the Leeds–Liverpool Canal — a perfect setting to put new skills into practice and enjoy the water together.

If you would like to work towards your own Discover (or Explore Award for those with Discover), have a chat with our Head Coach, Rick, who’ll be happy to guide you.

New members are always welcome — whether you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned paddler. 🌊
