💔 It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and caretaker, Dave, has passed away after a short illness.
Dave was one of a kind. Quirky, lively, kind-hearted and blessed with a wicked sense of humour, he brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. He was the sort of person who could brighten even the most difficult day with a joke, a funny story or simply his presence.
To many people, Dave was the first face they came across at John Holt Community Centre. He welcomed people through the door, helped anyone who needed it, and cared deeply about the centre and the community it serves. He wasn’t just our caretaker; he was an integral part of team.
Quite simply, we would not be where we are today without him. During some challenging times for the centre, he has stood by us, worked tirelessly, believed in what we were trying to achieve and helped make it possible. His contribution to John Holt Community Centre and Westhoughton Assist Service cannot be measured.
The centre became a place of solace for Dave through some difficult times in his life, but somewhere along the way he became much more than a colleague. He became part of our family. Through the good days and the difficult ones, he was there. Always helping, always caring, always making us laugh with his little sidekick Bob in tow.
Dave always went above and beyond. No job was too much trouble, no problem too big, and no person unworthy of his time. He gave so much of himself to the centre and the people in it, and along the way he made countless friends. Whether you knew him for years or only met him briefly, chances are he left an impression on you.
The funny thing is, Dave hated compliments. He would probably be cringing if he could read this and telling us all to stop making a fuss. The truth is, he never really realised just how much he meant to people. He didn’t know how much joy he brought to our days, how many smiles he created, or how much better the centre felt simply because he was in it. He brought something special to all of us, and his absence will be felt for a very long time.
Dave was loved by staff, volunteers, service users and visitors alike. He leaves behind countless memories, plenty of stories, and a huge hole in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you, Dave, for your friendship, your loyalty, your humour and everything you gave to this community. The centre you helped build, support and care for will stand as part of your legacy.
You will be missed more than words can ever say and never forgotten.
Rest easy, Dave. ❤️
