Today we carried out our final act of 2025 which was to take the donations to our annual Winter Appeal to Urban Outreach Bolton, a local food bank benefiting the community in the greater Bolton area. We have been doing this for a few years now and once again the cadets and staff of 1471 have stepped up and given from their hearts to those in need.

This caps of an amazing year of charity work where we have again worked with Help For Heroes, Fortalice, RAFA Leigh Branch, and Royal British Legion, raising over £16k for the Poppy Appeal alone.

A massive thank you to all our cadets for their an amazing giving of their time and effort this year. We couldn’t be more proud of them.

Today over 40 cadets and 10 staff from 1471 took part in the annual Remembrance Sunday parade through Horwich. We headed the parade, carrying the Horwich Town Council and British Legion Horwich Branch standards as well as our own.

Our commanding officer, Sqn Ldr Nash said "I was extremely proud of the cadets today, they all looked amazing and showed the town again just how good we are as a Squadron"

Well done to everyone who attended and braved the weather to put our best foot forward.

Today 1471 remembers Cadet Christopher Bailey who is one of the three Royal Air Force Air Cadets who lost their lives in the Llyn Padarn disaster in 1993. Chris along with Amanda Whitehead and Mark Oakden of 1036 Bury Squadron Air Training Corps were taking part in an opportunity flight when their helicopter suffered a malfunction and crash landed into the lake at Llyn Padarn. Her crew and one other cadet managed to get out but unfortunately Chris, Amanda, and Mark could not.

Last night on parade the current cadets and staff of 1471 carried out their now tradition of leaving the right marker position free for Chris on finals, and held a minutes silence to remember him.
