Today we held our Sunday Little Newts session at Leverhulme Park; we removed the secure straps from the now sturdy and established two fruit orchards, we also brought our mini pots, magnify glasses, nets and ID guides for the mini beast hunt and just for good measure jumbo snakes and ladders and volley ball.

Inspection of the orchards was really positive, quite taken back by one of our pear trees, it has bloomed so very well and we are hoping for fruit again this year.

We had 21 people attended, enjoying the big hunt, free games and bacon butties with drinks as we sat on our picnic blankets. We also had people who had a wander over to see what we were doing, wanting to learn more about our Sunday session, it was a mix of those chatting to us and those passing by taking a leaflet to learn more about Bolton NEWT and the little Newts.

Thank you to those as always who volunteer their time, in the next few days we'll see if we can make a little video from the captured footage.

Wow! Over 20 people turned out today for our last minute gathering to plant daffodil bulbs along Long Lane. It was lovely to have families join us in the sun as we planted 10kg of daffys to fill in the gaps. Angelica cooked up bacon butties for those that joined us with vimto in the pump flask, inbetween the dinner we caught a glimpse of three Roe Deer running across the park!

We won't see the daffy's beauty this year, as we've planted just out of season, however the hope is we get to see them in bloom next spring if they root for this year. We'll be back on Sunday 26th April for tree care of the fruit tree's, checking out the tadpoles and we'll have some picnic blankets, games and ID for bugs.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped, lovely to have the community together enjoying the park and doing something positive we can all enjoy next year.

Due to the heavy rain, we have decided to cancel today’s group meeting.

As much as we love being outside in all weathers, we don’t want our families and little newts to get poorly.

February 22nd.

Our first SLN event today was coppicing the willow weaved hedge to allow light through to the pond, with the lowering of the hedge this will allow a flight path for the heron and ducks but also at night for bats to use our 2023 established bat boxes.

Very grateful for the bacon butty to get us started and the weather remaining dry and calm.

What we coppiced was used for many new things. To establish a new dead hedge in situ, some has been brought back to site for creating a living fence, and we are using some to fill in our willow dome on site.
