💎 NORMALISING MENTAL HEALTH FOR MEN 💎
When it comes to mental wellbeing, there are so many support groups for women, and it is the norm for women to catch up with girlfriends to share challenges.

If a parent, whilst parent support groups exist, very few men feel comfortable attending them. The names themselves - "Mums and Tots" preclude them. So where do dads turn to for support?

Yet I know of many men who have held the fort together during lockdown and found things tough, struggling with Anxiety and Stress.

The following, published by Young Minds, is written from the perspective of a man:

"Men have mental health too. Bottling up emotions should no longer be seen as ‘staying strong’ or being 'masculine'."

"Our perception of what masculine means needs to change."

"Talking about mental health shouldn’t be seen as a heavy conversation you only have when you’re struggling. Conversations about mental health should be part of our every day. "

"Asking for help and showing vulnerability should be seen as a strength."

"Crying when needed should be encouraged. Our mental health is nothing to be ashamed of."

If any of this resonates with you, please feel free to get in touch - you can PM me 💎

🌻💜🌻STRESS-LESS SUNDAY🌻💜🌻
WHAT IS IN YOUR STRESS CONTAINER – AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO OPEN THE TAP?

Yesterday, I was speaking to a client about ways to manage Anxiety and Stress and her Stress Triggers and I referred her to the Stress Container.

As an MHFA Mental Health First Aider for Adults and Youth, it is a tool I use a lot, as understanding what causes us stress and taking action to manage our stress levels is a key part of looking after our wellbeing.

She found it very helpful, so thought I would share it with you…

The concept is very simple but essentially:
💜🌻The size of a person’s stress container is unique to them and depends on their life experiences and tolerance to stress: so a high tolerance to stress means a larger container and a low tolerance means a smaller container, and therefore a higher likelihood of thigs spilling over.

💜🌻 Into your stress container goes all factors including health, work, finance, family, relationship and other worries, and of course, with Covid, there are additional pressures. If we are not coping, then the container overflows, hence why it is important to have strategies to release the stress, open the tap and let the stress out.

💜🌻 This includes self-care strategies and relaxation techniques that will keep the tap open, such as sleep, healthy eating, exercise, connecting with others, meditation, breathing techniques and mindfulness.

💜🌻 It is important to be aware of unhelpful activities that we use as coping mechanisms to distract ourselves from the stress, like working long hours or excessive alcohol as they in fact block the tap or add to the stress going in.

💜🌻So it is really important to keep a Balance and have enough coping strategies to stop the container getting too full.

I am going to be giving a lot more information about this on my page about Triggers and giving tips and coping strategies:
https://www.facebook.com/KaliniFKent/

But in the meantime, on this lovely sunny Sunday afternoon, would love to know what you are doing to open that tap and let the stress out?

Kalini xx 💜🌻💜

WHAT IS YOUR NEW NORMAL?

A while back, I shared this lovely poem, and wondered how everyone is doing now as we are emerging from Lockdown?

What impact has Covid -19 had on you?

From the people I speak to, there are a whole range of emotions and answers to this question:

Some have enjoyed the enforced time staying at home, having more time and space for themselves, reaping the benefits of slowing down and having more quality time with loved ones ...

Some, on the other hand have found and are still finding the impact very stressful ...
- juggling of work and home schooling has been challenging ...
- the pressures of wearing more hats than normal has been difficult ...
- worries over health and caring for others still exists …
- fears over future job and business prospects and financial worries remain…
- as inherently social animals, we have been missing our social connections and secure attachments.

Our young people have also found it a really challenging phase in their lives:
- being separated from their friends
- missing out on the final days of primary or secondary school
- missing out on proms and other end of year celebrations
- disruption to their routines, which for some can be difficult
- uncertainty over education and progress and how they will fare when they go back to school fulltime

So please do share how you are feeling as talking about it helps

Also, feel free to private message me if you want to share privately as I I would like to help support if I can xx

WHAT DOES THIS IMAGE MEAN FOR YOU?

Happy Sunday everyone, and just wanted to share this powerful image as I think it represents so many things. We all see things differently and here are some of the things that I see it is about:

~ The most obvious one is how everyone is working together;
~ How by working together we make a strong foundation;
~ How there is strength in numbers, when your own strength is not enough;
~ How sometimes there is no need to do things all alone;
~ How people are giving others a helping hand to progress;
~ How people are collaborating for the common good;
~ How it doesn't matter what race, gender, religion, or job you do, we are all in the same situation of needing support and, by the same token, capable of helping others.

In our uncertain times, collaboration is so important and much needed. A couple weeks back it was Mental Health Awareness week, with the theme of KINDNESS, and we have all seen the power of kind acts during the pandemic and how important it is to support each other, and continue to do so going forward.

With the new month ahead of us and the challenges we are all still facing, what intentions have you set, and how can that incorporate helping others?

Would love to know your thoughts.
