My Life Films

My Life Films Charity supporting people living with dementia and their carers, via film and TV content provision

My Life Films is a UK-registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by dementia. We are passionate about the power of film and television to bring people deep connection, wide-ranging stimulation and moments of pure joy. We know however that people living with dementia are often excluded from, and even distressed by, many mainstream television programmes - the plots might

be too complex, the music, too loud. My Life Films was founded in 2014 to serve the needs of people living with dementia; all our work is dementia-centred – purposefully designed to meet the cognitive needs of people living with dementia, and to support their care staff, families and friends. Through our on-demand streaming service My Life TV we offer dementia-friendly television to thousands of people at home and in care across the UK every year - improving mood, reducing anxiety, and providing vital respite for carers at home, and enjoyable and stimulating group activities for care staff in settings. My Life TV offers a wide variety of carefully selected and created content to meet the cognitive needs of people living with dementia. The wide range of programmes include specially produced quizzes, singalongs, drawing and chair yoga, as well as animal and nature programmes, feel good content, popular shows from the 1960s onwards and more.

🎶❤️ Some days remind us exactly why connection matters.

Last Friday, the My Life TV team spent the day filming a beautiful Songs and Smiles session at Newlands Care Home in Stockport, delivered by The Together Project

As soon as the singing started, the room came alive. Residents, children, parents and carers shared songs, smiles, laughter and conversations, creating the kind of atmosphere that simply can't be manufactured. It was a joy to witness.

Intergenerational activities like Songs and Smiles are so important. They bring together people who might never otherwise meet, creating opportunities for friendship, understanding and genuine human connection. The benefits are felt by everyone involved, from the youngest participants to the oldest.

Music has a remarkable ability to connect us to memories, emotions and each other. For people living with dementia, familiar songs can open doors to conversation, encourage participation and create moments of happiness that stay with us long after the music ends.

A special thank you to Songs and Smiles leader Jan, whose warmth, passion and infectious enthusiasm made the session such a success. Her ability to engage everyone in the room was wonderful to see. We'd also like to recognise the incredible team at Newlands Care Home, especially Pat, Clare and Melissa, whose dedication and compassionate care shone through in every interaction throughout the day.

We're proud to be working with The Together Project to help showcase initiatives that bring communities together and celebrate the power of connection.

We left with full hearts, lots of footage and a reminder that sometimes the simplest moments such as singing a song together and sharing a smile can make the biggest difference.

❤️ Watch this space for more from our visit.

“I think television can be used in a really positive way; if used effectively, television can help reduce anxiety. It can promote orientation. It can help improve social interactions and strengthen relationships between residents and colleagues and families as well.”

What a pleasure it was to catch up with the brilliant Naomi Daglish, Lead Happieness & Wellbeing Ambassador Advinia Health Care and hear her thoughts on the power and potential of dementia-centred television. Thank you Naomi!
