🎶❤️ Some days remind us exactly why connection matters.
Last Friday, the My Life TV team spent the day filming a beautiful Songs and Smiles session at Newlands Care Home in Stockport, delivered by The Together Project
As soon as the singing started, the room came alive. Residents, children, parents and carers shared songs, smiles, laughter and conversations, creating the kind of atmosphere that simply can't be manufactured. It was a joy to witness.
Intergenerational activities like Songs and Smiles are so important. They bring together people who might never otherwise meet, creating opportunities for friendship, understanding and genuine human connection. The benefits are felt by everyone involved, from the youngest participants to the oldest.
Music has a remarkable ability to connect us to memories, emotions and each other. For people living with dementia, familiar songs can open doors to conversation, encourage participation and create moments of happiness that stay with us long after the music ends.
A special thank you to Songs and Smiles leader Jan, whose warmth, passion and infectious enthusiasm made the session such a success. Her ability to engage everyone in the room was wonderful to see. We'd also like to recognise the incredible team at Newlands Care Home, especially Pat, Clare and Melissa, whose dedication and compassionate care shone through in every interaction throughout the day.
We're proud to be working with The Together Project to help showcase initiatives that bring communities together and celebrate the power of connection.
We left with full hearts, lots of footage and a reminder that sometimes the simplest moments such as singing a song together and sharing a smile can make the biggest difference.
