JENESES COMMUNITY SHOP &
FOODBANK
Supporting Our Community Since 2021
The Jeneses Community Shop and Foodbank was created in 2021 by Steve Brunton, John Wick and Jenny Jones OBE the owner of the Jeneses Community Centre.
Five years later, Jeneses works closely with other local food provision charities,
the Citizens Advice and the local council community partner to help reduce food waste and while identifying and supporting those most in need within our community.
Reducing Food Waste. Supporting People.
Through a wide range of donated goods and furniture, Jeneses soon opened its Charity Shop, which helps support the running costs of the Food bank.
Jeneses is an independent Community Shop & Foodbank and does not receive any funding from the government or external sources.
We rely on:
• Income from our charity shop
Income from our Facebook Selling page
• Public donations
Suggested Donations for food items
• Occasional direct donations of food
• Surplus food donated and collected daily through Fairshare, Neighbourly and Blue Cross.
About Our Food
The majority of food available at Jeneses has reached its ‘best before’ date — but not all.
We collect surplus food:
• On the day it reaches its ‘best before’ date or just before..
• Several times daily
We collect food every day through:
* FareShare
* Neighbourly
* Blue Cross
At:
• Tesco
• Aldi
And weekly from:
• Booker Group
• KFC
• Nando’s
•Pets at home
Food Quality & Safety
• We carefully select good fruit and in-date vegetables from damaged
packets where only one item may not be usable.
• Any suitable ‘use by’ items are frozen on or before their expiry date.
• Some ‘in date’ items may have damaged outer packaging but remain
sealed internally (e.g. cereal boxes, multi-pack crisps).
• Many dry goods and tins are donated by the public and supermarkets that are well within date — often with years remaining.
We are Registered as a food establishment with the local Council
Environmental Health Office (EHO).
