Exciting news!!!! Our lovely has launched a new podcast all about ringing and nesting! Read more about it below and head to Amira’s profile to have a listen!

A podcast about the surprising stories and incredible journeys we’ve uncovered through bird ringing and nest recording, and about the amazing people behind some of that work. The aim of the podcast is to shine a light on some of the incredible bird monitoring work going on quietly and out of sight across the UK.

In each episode, we’ll meet an expert who has dedicated months or years of their life to a particular species or project that they’re extremely passionate about. In this first episode, we’ll be talking to Jimmi Hill, a raptor conservationist, ringer and nest finder, and founder of the charity Raptor Aid.

The podcast will be available to listen to on Spotify and Apple Music, but if you can’t access these and are still interested in listening then please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

and from our team headed out to do some lamping last night and had great success with catching 4 beautiful woodcock!

Lamping involves fining birds at night and works particularly well on waders! Our team use a thermal camera to spot the birds before gently netting them - they’re then transported back safely to be rung, and then moments later released where we found them!

snuck along after all the hard work was done to fit some rings and learn about some of the other measurements taken on waders, such as bill and tarsus length!

A massive thank you to who also came along and got some photos for us!

Welcome to 2026!

Our first session (at the gorgeous )of the year featured nuthatches, some wintering chiffchaff, robins, great t**s, tree creepers, blue t**s, coal t**s and long tailed t**s! A total of 78 individuals ringed including 5 retracts from our last session! What a cracking start to the year! 🎉

*Apologies for the silence over the last few months! Our team is growing but we’ve been focusing our efforts on getting out and ringing more birds! We will try to be more consistent this year!

A quick 30 seconds of our day yesterday at a fantastic reserve!

We were pretty busy with our largest team out to date and we even had some new faces to join us!

55 birds in total, with highlights being some blackcaps and chiffchaffs that are still around, along with some Marsh t**s and a blue tit that we actually rang as a chick in the summer in one of our dormouse nest boxes! Great to see it’s surviving so well in such an amazing habitat!

Another family of dippers ringed this evening! 2 healthy chicks and both male and female adults all now sporting new Darvic rings. Keep your eyes open as they’ll hopefully be coming to a river near you (if you’re in north Cornwall!)

A very busy bank holiday Monday for our team with nesting!

Finding some lovely large stone chats in a nest, ringed some pied wagtail chicks AND these adorable 1 day old house sparrows!

Who else has been nesting over the bank hols?!

*As always all ringing is done under license and nest recording is conducted under the nest recording scheme.

Family photo!! What a day - A nest we found c. 5 weeks ago of three eggs 🪺 today we had three 10 day old chicks 🐥 and managed to catch mum and dad!

That’s another 5 dippers colour ringed for our Ringing Adults for Survival project.

👀We’re excited to get out with our binoculars and see where everyone ends up!!

If you’d like to help us with the project, we really need help with resighting these beautiful birds - if you’d spot any with or without rings, please get in touch! Alternatively if you would like to monitor a certain spot, let us know!

🪺 If you’ve been wondering why we’ve been so quiet, our team has been very busy nesting finding! 🪺

Earlier this year gave us a talk on nesting and how to find nests, and well.. our team has taken to it! Check out these incredible nests that we’ve found! Can you guess any of the species?

Check out our latest blog post for the answers and to learn more about nesting! https://www.ncbrg.co.uk/post/nest-recording-with-emma-scotney

Our first colour ringed dipper for our new RAS! 1 down, 99 more to go!

We’re really excited to see where these dippers disperse too and to track their movements and longevity over the next few years!
