Faces of the Foundation 💛 Meet Becky, CCF’s Event Officer! 👋

From bringing our events to life to making sure every little detail comes together, Becky plays a big part in helping us connect with our supporters, funders and communities across Cornwall.

We caught up with Becky to find out a little more about her - from her favourite place in Cornwall to what she gets up to when she’s not in the office.

🎪 Explain your role in one sentence:
“I love the variety of my role, bringing together people who are passionate about Cornwall, seeing the difference our support can make, all whilst working in some gorgeous venues across Cornwall!"

🌊 What is it you love most about Cornwall?
“The space and blue skies (in between the mizzle!)"

🏖️ Favourite Cornish beach?
“My hometown Trevaunance Cove first thing in the morning before the crowds.”

🐾 Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
“Baking, long walks with my dog and crime dramas!”

🏃‍♀️ Goal for the end of the year?
“To run a 10k!”

💛 Favourite thing about working for CCF?
“The amazing team I work with.”

✨ What’s the most rewarding moment you’ve had working here?
“Our 20-year celebration at Truro Cathedral. Seeing so many of our supporters and projects we’ve helped along the way come together was amazing.”

1 in 5 workers in Cornwall earn below the Real Living Wage.

That’s 20.1% of employees, compared with 15.7% across the UK.

And for part-time workers, it’s even higher: 34.5% of part-time jobs in Cornwall pay below the Real Living Wage.

Behind every statistic is a person or family trying to make ends meet, balancing housing, heating, food, transport and other essentials.

There is positive progress. Cornwall became the UK’s first Living Wage Place in 2025, with more than 15,000 workers now guaranteed the Real Living Wage through accredited employers.

But there is still work to do.

At Cornwall Community Foundation, understanding these challenges helps us better support the grassroots organisations working alongside people experiencing financial hardship.

£1 million donation milestone from the Sedel-Collings Foundation 💛

We’re delighted to celebrate the Sedel-Collings Foundation reaching an extraordinary £1 million in funding through Cornwall Community Foundation.

The Sedel-Collings Foundation has been committed to strengthening communities and supporting the organisations working tirelessly to support mental health, su***de prevention, women's empowerment as well as tackling loneliness, disadvantage and social isolation, helping improve the lives of people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Over the years, the Sedel-Collings funding has enabled The 'old bank' and Community Larder in Camelford to restore its community food larder, helped Georgia's Voice Supporting Young Women's Mental Health expand its reach, funded outdoor nature and wellbeing sessions at Falmouth Food Co-op's Loveland, and supported The Hugs Foundation to recruit a full-time Youth Facilitator. The Hugs Foundation investment alone has enabled the delivery of more than 642 hours of wellbeing interventions, supporting 109 young people. These are just a handful of the many projects that have benefited from their remarkable generosity.

In 2025 alone, the Sedel-Collings Fund distributed more than £193,000, supporting 6,191 people through projects tackling issues including mental health and food poverty.

We’re incredibly grateful for this longstanding partnership and for everything the Sedel-Collings Foundation continues to do to help build stronger, more resilient communities.

Could your organisation help people across Cornwall become more financially secure?

The Caledonia Investments Fund is supporting organisations tackling financial hardship, debt and financial education across Cornwall and applications are closing soon!

Over the past three years, Caledonia has invested more than £250,000 in Cornwall, helping grassroots organisations provide practical support that can make a lasting difference to people’s lives.

Previously, we were delighted to welcome Chris Hodges, Trustee of the Caledonia Investments Charitable Foundation, to Cornwall to visit two projects supported through the fund: West Cornwall Women’s Aid and Trelya.

From helping women build confidence around budgeting and managing debt, to embedding financial education into trusted community relationships, their work shows the powerful impact that targeted support can have.

As Amy Buzza-Blackwell, CCF’s Philanthropy Director, said:

“We are so grateful to the Caledonia team for their ongoing support for this issue which has such long-lasting and all-encompassing impacts on people’s lives.”

Cycling towards better health, confidence and connection 🚲

With a £5,000 grant from the Community Fund Cross Country Rail 2025, the The Cornwall Bicycle Project CIO expanded its cycling sessions and reached more people across Cornwall. Helping remove barriers to active travel while supporting physical and mental wellbeing.

From regular group rides and bike maintenance sessions to donated and upcycled bikes, the project gave 108 people the opportunity to get active, learn new skills and build confidence.

And the impact goes beyond cycling. Participants formed new friendships, felt more connected to their communities and were encouraged to get involved in other local activities.

Our research from Vital Signs shows that a third of Cornwall’s adult population and half of children and young people not meeting national physical activity guidelines.

Proving that projects like these means so much more than just getting from A to B.

For the members of Gylly Wellbeing Swimmers, a morning sea swim is about so much more than getting in the water.

It’s about friendship, belonging, and connection.

The Gylly Wellbeing Swimmers offer a friendly face on the shoreline for anyone to come down and enjoy a sea swim and not be alone.

They also offer coaching to improve water safety and support sessions to improve mental wellbeing.

With support from our Amaranth Fund, Gylly Wellbeing Swimmers delivered three Healing from Abandonment courses, giving 24 people access to specialist support completely free of charge.

Earlier this summer, we visited the group at Gyllyngvase Beach and heard some incredibly moving stories about the impact this community has had.

Because sometimes, the most powerful thing we can give someone is a place where they belong. 💙

➜ The Trevalga, Tintagel and Boscastle Fund has been created by The Gerald Curgenven Will Trust to provide sustainable funding that supports community groups, voluntary organisations, or local projects within these areas.

➜ The Caledonia Investments Charitable Foundation funds community projects tackling debt, financial planning, and education for low income adults and families.

➜ North Petherwin Fund welcomes applications to support community projects in the the North Petherwin area.

➜ The Papillon Fund welcomes applications to support community projects in the following areas: St Thomas & South Petherwin Nr Launceston.

➜ The Young & Talented Creative Writing Awards supports budding young writers with funding and mentorship.

➜ The Financial Shock Crisis Fund supports people on no or low incomes who experience a financial shock, helping prevent them from falling into crisis.

Meet the team! 😊

Today's face of the Foundation is Wouter, our Software and Data Lead.

Wouter started at CCF as a Grants Officer becoming our resident technical whizz! Now he leads on all things data and software, helping the Foundation work smarter behind the scenes.

If you can't already tell from the photo, Wouter is a keen sailor. So when he's not in the office, you'll probably find him out on the water. ⛵

To get to know Wouter a little better, we asked him a few questions about his life inside and outside of work.

💼 Explain your role in one sentence:
I lead on data and software at Cornwall Community Foundation—building and integrating systems to improve how the organisation operates.

💙 What is it you love most about Cornwall?
Cornwall has a really great community! There's always some creative or outdoorsy event happening somewhere in Cornwall, so never a dull moment!

🏖️ Favourite Cornish beach?
Porth Saxon Beach is a favourite for beach barbecues.

⛵ Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Sailing, sailing, sailing.

🎯 Goal for the end of the year?
Streamline the processes of our current CRM system to ensure we are using it to its full potential.

✨ What’s the most rewarding moment you’ve had working here?
Visiting YMCA Cornwall in Penzance, showing how grants are used on the frontline to make a difference for young people at risk of homelessness.
