Have you spotted Discovering42 on the new maps around the Bodmin Camel Trail yet?

Finding us has always been a bit of an adventure. Our old venue was nestled away in Priory Park where we couldn’t be seen from the road. Now we have moved to a new venue on a road… only the road doesn’t have a name! We may have taken the name Discovering42 a little too literally..

We are now just a stone’s throw from the Camel Trail. Discovering42 makes a great pit stop after a cycle or walk; let your brain get a bit of a workout too! Explore our hands-on science exhibits or grab a little refreshment at our quirky chemistry Magic Mocktail Bar.

As much as we love hearing that Discovering42 is one of Cornwall’s hidden gems, we would quite like to be a little less hidden! We are a growing grassroots science museum and after a hot and rather quiet summer, we could really do with all the support we can get. So please spread the word, bring your friends and family to see our new space.

How to find us: We’re on the road to Sainsbury’s, directly opposite Berrycoombe Road Car Park on Google Maps (not the very similarly named Berrycoombe Car Park by the Camel Trail and Bodmin Jail Attraction!).

It is lovely to be open again, seeing families enjoying the space. It’s been a very challenging few months getting everything sorted, but moments like these make it all feel worth it.

Sometimes we can get lost thinking about what we still want to improve or create, that we don’t see what is already here.

We have had some people leaving heartwarming reviews, which give us a chance to sit down and take in all the good around us plus it really spurs us on with the next stage of the project. Thank you so much to everyone who has been so supportive along the way.

After months of hard work behind the scenes, we now have a range of new exhibits including Bernie's Junk Engines, which are running beautifully! We can't wait for you to see them in action.

Bernie's Junk Engines is a fascinating collection of miniature machines, playfully created by dabbling with the engineering behind steam power and artistically combining a random assortment of bits Bernie rescued from skips and car boot sales. Against all odds, these quirky creations whirr, puff and clatter into life, proving that one person's pile of odds and ends is another person's engineering masterpiece. It's been all hands on deck as we prepare to reopen. If we're honest, we were a little worried about welcoming so many work experience students during such a busy period, but they quickly proved us wrong!

Over the past two weeks, we've had two fantastic groups of young people and we are getting loads done together. From painting and soldering to researching and building exhibits, they've gained invaluable hands-on experience while helping us make real progress behind the scenes.

We believe the best way to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and makers is to give them the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

A huge thank you to our work experience team for all your hard work - we couldn't do it without you!

Looks like it's our turn!

You might recognise this fantastic exhibit from the Eden Project, created by Sam Lanyon and his fantastic team. We're thrilled to welcome it to its new home at Discovering42, thanks to a generous loan through the University of Exeter

The exhibit explores the Earth's natural materials and how we use them in our everyday lives. It perfectly complements our much-loved mining exhibit, where visitors get hands-on digging up and transporting the rare earth minerals needed to stock the phones in our bonkers Banana Store. Together, they offer an exciting glimpse of what's still to come as we continue developing our new geology zone.

Come and celebrate our re-opening this Saturday! Be among the first to see this incredible exhibit in its new home and discover what's next for Discovering42.

Creating Discovering42 has felt like a long road, but as we look around everything is really starting to come together. It's been great to see our infamous door walls take shape in their new home, to bring back some of our favourite exhibits, and finally have the space to create some exciting new ones.

We can't wait to share it all with you, we are so grateful that you have been part of the journey to create this truly unique space in Cornwall. Looking forward to opening our doors again this Saturday!
