🏛️ I recently met with the Museums Minister, Baroness Twycross, to push for more support for North Cornwall’s museums and heritage sites.

I raised key projects including Bodmin Keep: Cornwall's Army Museum, the Charles Causley Trust, and the Discovering42 science museum, as well as the need for clear funding routes to support them (and in The Keep's case, reopen its doors!)

These museums are really vital for educating local schools, and preserve our history & culture. Going forwards, I'll be working closely with the Minister, and the museums themselves, to make sure they can thrive. 🤝

It’s been a busy old month at Discovering42. We hosted FLAMM from 28th February to 1st March, supporting six different exhibitions and a pop up shop across both our old venue and our new space. It was great to see Bodmin buzzing with creativity.

A huge thank you to the FLAMM crew and all the artists that exhibited at Discovering42: CAMP members, Bea Green, Emma Druid, Max Whetter, Carlos Zapata, Linda Lamignan, Creatives Cornwall and Alice Mahoney.

We have been exploring the idea of creating a small number of artist studios alongside a shared collaborative space. The aim is to build a place where people can develop their work, bounce ideas, and connect with other creatives.

We would love to hear from artists who might be interested in a studio at Discovering42. Let us know what size space you would need and how you would like to use it. We will prioritise those who are keen to give back by offering community workshops as part of their studio use.

We are also very open to suggestions. If there are specific facilities, tools, or equipment you would like to see included, please tell us. We know some resources are too costly or impractical to have at home, and we are keen to explore how shared access could work.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, get in touch.

While Discovering42 was closed and moving into our new venue, being at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall over February half term was a great experience and a real lifeline. Also loved looking at all the boats when we were there, especially the foldable kayak the smallest boat to cross the Atlantic!

We brought along our mobile exhibition and spent the week surrounded by curiosity, creativity, and brilliant energy. It was such a pleasure to meet the lovely volunteers and staff, and all the wonderful people who came along to support us and get stuck in.

Fantastic to hear the squeals of joy, especially around the air box. We set a challenge to get paper to spin, hover, or fly as high as possible. It was really interesting to see how the designs evolved over the week. Children are so creative and can really thrive in open ended tasks. Fascinating to see how one child would come up with a new design, and it would spark a whole new range of inventions from the table.

Many of us adults like the comfort of clear instructions and a set outcome, maybe because we make decisions all day and are tired, or just don't want to show that we don't know what we are doing! It felt like a good reminder that we should all allow ourselves to be a bit more playful and experimental.

By supporting the next generation with work opportunities, we’re not just helping individuals — we’re helping build a stronger, more sustainable community. Giving young people real-world experience builds confidence, skills, and a sense of purpose. It helps them explore their potential, while bringing fresh ideas and energy to our projects.

Let’s continue to open doors, share knowledge, and create space for young people to thrive.

Well done, Jonny!
