🎉 Congratulations to Chloe Selby & Louise Baker Morris MBE on Passing IOT in Grantham! 🎉

A huge well done to Chloe Selby and Louise Baker Morris MBE for successfully completing and passing their Initial Officer Training (IOT) course in Grantham.

Reflecting on the achievement, Louise said:

“I am proud to say that I have successfully completed and passed my IOT after a few informative and challenging days. I look forward to the opportunities ahead. During this journey, I met some wonderful people and acquired valuable knowledge and effective leadership tools 😃

This achievement demonstrates that success is achievable for anyone — no goal is impossible with commitment and effort.” 🎉🎉🎉

The four-day course is designed to develop future ACF leaders, equipping adult volunteers with the leadership and management skills needed to take on more senior roles. Drawing on lessons from the Army School of Leadership, the programme focuses on developing the right skills, attitudes and behaviours to lead effectively.

At the heart of the course are the 7 Core Leadership Behaviours:

⭐ Lead by Example
⭐ Encourage Thinking
⭐ Apply Reward and Discipline
⭐ Demand High Performance
⭐ Encourage Confidence in the Team
⭐ Recognise Individual Strengths and Weaknesses
⭐ Strive for Team Goals

This achievement reflects the dedication, resilience and commitment shown by both Chloe and Louise. Their success is a testament to the power of hard work, continuous learning and strong leadership.

👏 Congratulations to you both on this fantastic accomplishment. We wish you every success as you continue your leadership journey and inspire the next generation of cadets and volunteers.

🏗️ A Major Investment in the Future of Our Cadets in Bangor 🇬🇧

Exciting progress is underway as the Bangor Joint Cadet Centre embarks on a comprehensive 16-week refurbishment programme, creating a modern, fit-for-purpose facility that will support young people, volunteers, and the wider community for years to come.

Funded through the Reserves Estates Optimisation Programme, this project is part of a wider government initiative to enhance the cadet and reserve estate across the United Kingdom. Bangor is one of 10 new Welsh centres being developed, highlighting a strong commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders, team players, and community champions.

As part of a £1 million investment by the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales, the centre will undergo a complete transformation. The extensive works include:

✅ New roofing and window repairs
✅ Modern mechanical and electrical infrastructure
✅ Internal reconfiguration with demolition of existing walls and installation of new partitions
✅ Brand-new kitchen and toilet facilities
✅ Full interior redecoration throughout
✅ New floor coverings, fixtures, and fittings

These improvements will create a safer, more efficient, and more welcoming environment for cadets and adult volunteers alike, ensuring the facility meets the needs of current and future generations.

Delivering a project of this scale on a restricted site presents its own challenges, but thanks to careful planning and the expertise of the project team, work is progressing with confidence. John Fowler, contracts manager at contractors Krol Corlett, noted that managing complex logistics is something the team is highly experienced in through its work across the NHS and education sectors.

The project is being led by the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales, whose continued commitment to strengthening cadet infrastructure across the country is helping create opportunities for young people to develop confidence, resilience, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships.

This refurbishment is far more than a building upgrade—it is an investment in people, communities, and the future of youth development in Wales.

👏 We look forward to seeing the transformation take shape and celebrating the completion of a facility that will serve cadets with pride for many years to come.
