Swindon Retired Greyhounds

Morning all,
So Abbey Stadium hosted it's very last Greyhound Race yesterday. It really is an end of an era.
Over my 10 years homing Swindon Greyhounds I have met and worked with some wonderful people, thank you all for the support both in person and on this page and for your kind donations of time, duvets and money.Special mentions to our tireless leader Loretta Dixon and my Co volunteer Fergus Lily for always being there plus honorable mentions to Kimberley Nettleton,Steve Stanford, Ann Stanford and Jasmine.

Big thanks to all the trainers who have worked tirelessly to help us rehome their retired hounds, couldn't have done it without you.

In the New Year I will be working alongside The Greyhound Trust to try and restablish the Swindon branch to carry on helping retired hounds. If anyone can help with kennel space or time then please contact Madeline at The Greyhound Trust head office.

Woodie was born in november 2020 and he decided he had enough of racing and retired, he is a big dog but very patient and gentle and has been small dog tested

Tigger – What can you say about Tigger- other than he’s a wonderful thing! Born January 2021 and his racing name was Sparta Smash. He weighs in at 31kg and last ran in July 2024. He is a lovely dark brindle and was retired due to a slight shoulder injury. He lives up to his name and is full of bounce – especially around dinner time. He is very clean in the kennel and almost shy and not a barker.

Clare and Tryp are litter brother and sister, born in 2019. They grew up together on the farm and have spent the last three years together in the kennel.

They are both extremely loving and enjoy cuddles. They are calm, rarely bark (unless it’s dinner time) and are not fazed by loud noises (we live alongside a go-cart track and shooting school). They spend every day out in the paddock playing together, come when they are called and are easy to handle on a lead. They are both very gentle around children – over Christmas, the grandchildren walked them to and from the paddock and they were wonderfully quiet with them, even though Tryp was almost as tall as the grandchild.
