Urgent notice:

Due to the current weather warning regarding the area experiencing extreme heat over the coming days, we have taken the decision to cancel services from 23rd June – 25th June 2026 inclusive.

Staff & Customer welfare is paramount along with protection of our infrastructure and it is felt the risk in the extreme heats forecast, is too high for us to do this.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The current plan is that services will resume on Saturday 27th June 2026 onwards.

If you have pre-booked tickets, you will be contacted via email with options available to you.

At present, Minehead station shop and café will be open on the above dates between 10.00 and 15.30, however this will be monitored over the coming days.

We look forward to welcoming you to the West Somerset Railway once temperatures reach a safer level.

We shall keep our social media and website as up to date as possible throughout the week.

We imply that our mannequin 'Annie', and the other children with her, were evacuated to the area from Swindon during the war. In fact, many children really were evacuated to West Somerset, arriving at many of our stations. Watchet station still has the text of the original announcement played as children stepped off the evacuation trains. The picture below show evacuees having just arrived at Williton station as part of Operation Pied Piper...
