Hi could you please post the following message on your timeline, I told Carolyn I would do it in January, finally getting round to it!
I would like to say a huge thank you to you guys particularly Carolyn at this time. Not only do they loan much needed equipment they also get things done!
After a year long fight with my housing association I was refused a stair lift even with an OT and social worker report. I live in a coach house and to gain access to my front door I have to use my stairs, for 15 month I had to bum shuffle up and down to get out of my home, for 12 of those 15 months ive had paralysis in one leg, imagine how difficult and most days impossible it was for me to get down my stairs with that and a spinal injury, I had totally given up all hope until coming in to have a cuppa and chat with Carolyn.
I told her what had happened, she got straight on the phone and had a meeting organised 5 days later, it was then decided I had been treated appallingly and the decision for my stair lift was reversed, my funding was fast tracked through the local council and the stair lift was fitted in January. Carolyn got more done in 5 days than the OT had managed in a year. I am so grateful to Carolyn and the Disability Action group for their help.
If anyone reading this has had the same difficulties as me having equipment put in place don't give up, don't stop with social services and the OT department, if your being refused come to these guys and see if they can help, without them I would have had to move house, I am part of a community here, everything is accessible to me in my town, making me move would have been completely wrong for me.
Once again a huge thank you to Carolyn and the Disability action group whom without I would still be a prisoner in my own home.
Lisa Dawson.
