🌳🛠️ Local Businesses – Can You Help? 🛠️🌳

Blandford Scout Group is holding a Spring Clean Day on Saturday 6th June (10am–5pm) to help improve and maintain our Scout Hut and grounds.

We're looking for support from local businesses, contractors, and skilled volunteers who may be able to donate a few hours of time, expertise, equipment, or materials.

In particular, we would appreciate help with:

🌲 Tree pruning and maintenance
🛤️ Track repairs
🔧 General maintenance tasks around the hut

The Scout Group provides opportunities for young people across our community, and any support you can offer would make a huge difference to our volunteers and members.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Peter Warrington, our Group President, this week.

Peter gave an extraordinary amount of time, energy and dedication to Scouting in Blandford over many decades. Serving as our President for many years, he remained deeply committed to local Scouting and cared passionately about its future right up until the very end.

Peter’s contribution went far beyond any title. He was hugely instrumental in the preservation, refurbishment and improvement of our Scout Headquarters, dedicating countless hours to maintaining and developing the building and grounds that so many young people have benefited from over the years. He took enormous pride in ensuring Blandford Scouts had a home to be proud of, and his hard work leaves a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Even after becoming less active following Covid and the sad loss of his wife Hazel in 2021, Peter always stayed in touch, regularly checking in and keen to know that Scouting in Blandford was still going strong.

Peter was practical, knowledgeable, determined, and deeply committed to doing what was best for Scouting. His stories, wisdom, humour and dedication will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On behalf of everyone at Blandford Scouts, we send our sincere condolences to Peter’s family and thank him for everything he did for our Group and for local Scouting.

Peter has now gone home, but his legacy will continue in every meeting, camp, activity and young person who passes through our doors.

We’re collecting raffle and tombola prizes — big or small — to help raise funds for our Scouts. 💚

🎁 Ideas include:

🍷 Bottles of wine
🕯️ Toiletries, candles, or small gifts
🎟️ Gift vouchers or experiences

Every donation helps us make these events fun and festive for everyone — and supports future Scout adventures, camps, and activities.

🧺 Donations can be dropped off at your child’s next Scout meeting — there’ll be a collection box ready and waiting!

We’re proud to share what our Scouts have achieved this year - made possible by incredible volunteers who give their time to help young people grow, explore, and learn skills for life…something we can all be proud of as a community.

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers particularly for our Cub section (8-10 years old) but any section would love help if you fancy a couple of hours of fun each week 😁

There are jobs/roles behind the scenes that we could have help with too particularly hut/ground maintenance, fundraising and Chair person for our trustee board

Quiz Night & AGM
11th October 2025 6pm
Blandford Scout Hut, Eagle House Gardens

Bring along any family, friends, neighbours (they do not need to be members of the Scout Group)

We will begin with our AGM, that will be no longer than 15 minutes.

We have attached the agenda, the minutes of our previous AGM, a copy of our Trustee Annual Report (with the link to POR -Policy, Organisation and Rules- model constitution, Chapter 5). If you have any questions you would like to raise please email Sybille our Group Chair [email protected]

Then our Scouts will begin the Quiz! They have been working hard in preparation for this event.

£10 per team - max 6 members (either bring a team or join on at the event)

Hot Dogs, Cake, Cold, Soft & Hot Drinks will be available to purchase

The scout group took part in a sponsored hike, doing the three hills/peaks of Hod Hill, Hambledon Hill and Shillingstone Hill, all in aid of raising funds for the 35 Scouts going to Poacher Jamboree next year.

The Beavers just did Hod Hill a walk of around 5km

The Cubs did Hod Hill and Hambledon Hill a walk of around 10km

The Scouts and Explorers did Hod Hill, Hambledon Hill and Shillingstone Hill a walk of around 20km

The walk started a little damp and soon dried up after a short while, the whole group made it to the top of the first hill, on the way down we said goodbye to the Beavers who then made their way back to the start, after getting to the top of the next hill, we made our way to Shillingstone Station where we stopped for lunch, after lunch we said goodbye to the Cubs who made their way back to the start along the trailway, from the station the Scouts and Explorers made their way to to the start of Shillingstone Hill where the heavens opened with a very heavy spell of rain all the way until we got to the top where it soon stopped and the sun came out for the walk back down and to make their way back to the start.
