We had a great talk last night from Neil Harvey, from the Scottish Ambulance Service, who trains Community First Responders and is helping set up a group in Blairgowrie and Rattray. First Responders are trained to help with medical emergencies and can save lives by supporting a patient until the ambulance can get there. Community First Responders provide an essential service in a rural area like ours and more volunteers are needed. [email protected]

Our Charity Golf day at Blairgowrie Golf Club on 4th June was a great success, raising just under £7000 for local and international charities. 19 teams took part in a shotgun start and were we lucky with the weather!!!.Thunder was heard but it was confirmed that it was 7 miles away and there was very little rain whilst players were on the course.

The winning team was OCAD LED led by Euan Donaldson . Other members of his team were Murray Donaldson, Phil McKenna and Forbes Davidson. 2nd place Bracken Bashers and third Allied Business Finance.
Longest Drive - Keith Mackenzie, ladies Anne Ferrier and Closest to the Pin, Dave Mann, ladies Janice Lang .
With the raffle, won by Derek Allan and Auction Lots together the day raised £6800.

Louisa Leonard of P4P - Pickups for Peace - spoke to us a few weeks ago about the Charity she and her farming husband are involved with. Since its founding in 2023 P4P has delivered 869 4WD pickups, ambulances and quad bikes, loaded with life saving supplies, to communities in Ukraine. Over 500 drivers have made up 27 convoys so far. We were impressed with this direct aid, and have donated £1000 for supllies for the next convoy. Three of our members are going to be drivers, so watch this space for updates!

Our RYLA Candidate Sadbh came to meet us and tell us about herself on Wednesday, before she goes off to RYLA camp in July. The Rotary Youth Leadershio Award is an adventurous week where young people learn teamwork and leadership skills, and is confidence boosting and great fun. The participants are funded by their sponsoring Rotary Club.

Dylan Wallace did Blairgowrie proud on Saturday, in the finals of the Rotary Young Musician competition, held in Cheshire. Sadly, Dylan was not placed in the final but as the adjudicator said, all performers who took part in Saturdays final were winners because the standard of performance from each of them was so high. He was a credit to himself, his family, his school and Blairgowrie and District Rotary, without doubt, and made all who travelled down to support him, most proud. Dylan is going on to study at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire in Glasgow, and we wish him continued success.

Dylan Wallace, our finalist in the Rotary Young Musician contest, sang at our meeting last week. He thrilled us with his choices from Les Miserables and we wish him well in the UK final on Saturday 25th in Cheshire.

Sleet, rain, strong winds and very cold conditions don’t deter Rotarians! Litter pick on Sunday morning between Bendochy Crossroads and the top of the hill towards Blairgowrie -9 bags of rubbish collected, predominantly beer cans and plastic bottles. Shameful that anyone around this town feelsthat it is acceptable to throw rubbish out of the vehicles they travel in.
