Struggling with energy bills? You’re not alone. We know that keeping your home warm can be difficult when household budgets are stretched. With energy costs putting pressure on many households, you may be worried about heating your home, paying your bills or making sure your family stays comfortable this winter.

There is support available, and we want to help you find it.

Here’s where to start:
💚 Make your home more energy efficient
The Welsh Government’s Nest programme offers free energy-saving advice, and eligible households may be able to access improvements to help make their homes warmer.

💷 Check what financial support you could receive
You may be entitled to benefits or other support you’re not currently claiming. Benefits calculators can help you explore your options.

⚡ Need help with energy bills?
If you’re struggling to top up a prepayment meter or worried about running out of credit, your energy supplier or Citizens Advice may be able to help.

🌿 Worried about damp or mould?
We understand that keeping a home warm can be difficult when money is tight. Condensation, damp and mould can have different causes, and we don’t want you to feel you have to manage these problems alone. If you notice damp, mould or a persistent problem in your home, please let us know so we can work with you to understand what’s happening and what needs to be done.

If you’re struggling, please don’t suffer in silence. Taking that first step to ask for help can make a difference.

For three years, Tai Calon and Dragons RFC have been working together to help people across Blaenau Gwent stay active, build confidence and feel connected.

And the impact is bigger than you might think ⬇️

🏫 15 primary schools and 672 pupils taking part in Healthy Dragons
🥗 150 children are enjoying free holiday camps with healthy meals
🏃 18 children progressing into local sports clubs
🤝 20+ adults meeting every week through Sporting Memories
❤️ 200+ people coming together at the Sporting Memories Christmas celebration

From helping children discover new skills to supporting older people in making friends and tackling loneliness, there are opportunities for people of all ages.

One particularly special moment was when Caitlin, a pupil at Pen Y Cwm School, walked unaided for the first time during a session supported by Tai Calon. Her achievement was later recognised with the Moment of the Year award at the Dragons RFC Community Awards.

With support from the Travis Perkins Community Legacy Fund, we're helping make more of these opportunities accessible across Blaenau Gwent. Because it's about more than sport. It's about healthier choices, stronger connections and brighter futures for our communities.

More opportunities. Stronger communities. A lasting impact.

🕯️ Candles: cosy? Yes. Tiny fire demons? Also yes.
If you’re getting into the Halloween spirit with candles or tealights:
🎃 Keep them away from curtains, decorations and anything that can catch fire.
👀 Never leave them unattended.
🔥 Blow them out before you leave the room or go to bed.
A spooky atmosphere is great. A spooky visit from the fire service? Not so much.

We're asking residents to tell us about life in Blaenau Gwent, including their local area, wellbeing, community involvement and experiences of council services.

The more people who take part, the better we can understand what matters to our communities.

We’ve been looking at what we’ve delivered over the past year – and, importantly, where we know we still need to do better.

Our Delivering Value for You 2025–26 report is now available, showing how we’ve invested your rent and what that investment has meant for homes, services and communities across Blaenau Gwent.

There’s plenty to be proud of, including:

🔧 investing in homes and repairs
🏠 building and planning for more affordable homes
💚 supporting customers through our Lifft Team
🌱 making homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run
🤝 investing in communities across Blaenau Gwent
👂 listening to what customers tell us and making changes as a result

But we also know that not every customer has experienced Tai Calon at its best.

Repairs remain the issue you tell us matters most, and we know communication when things go wrong has been a particular frustration. We also need to improve how we handle complaints and respond to anti-social behaviour.

We’re not hiding that. We’re listening, learning and taking action.

Over the next year, our focus includes improving how we keep you updated, strengthening our complaints service and showing more clearly how your feedback leads to change.

Because Delivering Value for You isn’t just about what we’ve achieved. It’s about being honest about where we need to improve and making sure we do.

Turned the heating on and found your radiator has cold spots? Don’t worry, your radiator isn’t necessarily broken. It could simply be trapped air in your central heating system. If your radiator is cold at the top but warm at the bottom, it may need bleeding.

🛠️ How to bleed your radiator:
• Turn your heating off and let the radiator cool down.
• Put a cloth or container underneath the bleed valve.
• Slowly turn the bleed key until you hear a gentle hiss – that’s the trapped air escaping.
• When water starts to appear, close the valve. Don’t overtighten it.
• Turn your heating back on and check your radiator is warming up evenly.

And there you have it, no more cold spots!

Not sure what to do or is your radiator still not heating properly? Get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
