Blaenavon World Heritage Environment Group To preserve, maintain, enhance and promote the natural landscape and built heritage, within the Wor Leading guided walks.

If you are enthusiastic about our stunning landscape then why not join our group to help protect it and inspire others about its features? You’ll meet like-minded people and make a real difference to this internationally recognised area. The members of the group undertake a variety of tasks relating to the practical conservation and management of both the natural and historical features of the lan

dscape. Examples of regular activities include:

Habitat management tasks, such as tree planting or removal of unwanted vegetation on the heather moorland around Blaenavon. Wildlife monitoring, including surveying for red grouse, which are on the edge of their UK range in the area. Maintenance of footpaths and countryside furniture such as stiles and sign-posts. Monitoring and maintaining archaeological sites.

We have to postpone our next Garn Lakes Wildlife Wander by a week to Sunday 3 May. Our apologies to anyone whose plans are affected. There has recently been a Great White Egret (a large heron) at the lakes. Keep your eyes peeled if you visit!

A lovely spring morning for our March Garn Lakes walk. Geese and ducks are pairing up, Chiffchaffs and Skylarks are singing and a Robin was collecting moss for its nest. The first wildflowers are out, with over-wintering bumblebees and butterflies enjoying the warmth.
