The Thornton Road Community Centre in Kirkmuirhill is run for the community in partnership with Healthy Valleys.

To develop the Thornton Road Community Centre into a community run facility that is inclusive to all the people of Kirkmuirhill, Blackwood and the surrounding areas.

Our Thornton Road Community Centre was buzzing with spooky fun at our Halloween party! 🎃🕸️

From designing the scariest apples to musical statues, pass the parcel, and loads of laughter, everyone had a fang-tastic time. 👻🧙‍♀️

We are excited to be offering a FREE 4-week yoga course for parents and their little ones in Kirkmuirhill. The course is delivered by lovely Tara from Breathe & Be. Joiun us to meet other parents, build strength and flexibility, support wellbeing, and help you bond with your baby ❤️👶

These sessions are suitable for mums who are at least 6 weeks postpartum following a vaginal birth, or 10–12 weeks postpartum following a caesarean birth and have been cleared for gentle movement by a health professional. The course is also best for little ones who are ideally not yet crawling or on the move.

We look forward to you joining us with your little one! 😀

WIN (standing for ‘What I Need’) is a new initiative for rural South Lanarkshire, offering a FREE tailored service FOR YOU, to tackle isolation and offer support to build confidence, improve wellbeing and overcome barriers.

The WIN Rural team will be out and about in Clydesdale over the coming weeks. (You might already have seen them at the Carluke and District Community Fair where they introduced the new service to the Carluke community.)

Stoptober 2026!🚫💪📆

Could Stoptober be the time you stop smoking?

Peter Fanning from Coatbridge shares his experience of stopping smoking with support from Quit Your Way.

“I had quit with the service previously with their telephone support and lasted a year. I had lost a couple of mates and started smoking again. I came back to the service and went to their face-to-face clinics.

“For me, the weekly, face-to-face contact made it easier to go in every week and I was able to see their reaction and seen how supportive they were. Knowing there was someone there every week that I could speak to and say how hard it is when I was struggling for a cigarette, it made the difference for me, as they understood and sympathised.

“I’m on week 17, there is still times where I struggle still wanting a cigarette when I’m stressed or under pressure. I use the patches and the inhalator which helped me still being able to do something with my hand, both I got through the service free. I also needed to get out the routine of smoking as well as I’d have one every morning with my coffee.

“I reckon I’m saving about £200-£250 a month. I’ve redecorated some rooms in my house, I would smoke in the same room of the house, and the carpet was discoloured from smoke so I’ve put in a new one. Me and my wife have been on 4 local trips with the money I’ve saved. It’s given me peace of mind that I’m not counting down to payday every month.

“If I didn’t go to the clinic and met Linda my adviser, I don’t think I would have gave up smoking.”
