Hello this long time, been checking in so took off the football things sorry. Just to remind people we have community councillors in our villages so if you see anything in our villages that you think both the community council and Caerphilly council should know about, please tell us.

We have informed people that we will have money available for the community defibs. All of us on the community council hope this will help in the future.

Argoed Village Hall need help and are looking for someone to help look after the hall. Please check with them because this is a paid position and a few hours are available every week. They are also looking for committee members so check with them. The Hall puts on so many things and the choir practice on a Monday is a joy to hear. ( The community council holds its meetings in there on a Monday so hear them.)

Speaking of choirs, there is a new one meeting in Markham Leisure centre so contact them for details as well please.

As always, I will try and find out if there is help for people available especially when we are facing a rise in our electric and gas bills soon. If it continues there will be another hard winter coming up so hopefully any help available can be put in place before things deteriorate too much. I will post on here anyway.

Onto the darlings of e_ harley street, Aneurin Bevan Health Board have been justifiably admonished over their handling of the contracts given out to them. A newspaper report sets it all out. It's about time but personally I think they need to lose some of their big salaries because of their ineptitude and the way patients in those surgeries affected were treated. I mean both Aneurin Bevan Health Board and the e- harley street directors by that remark. I am still taking viewpoints on the surgery since Aneurin Bevan took it back over and will be again handing it over to our representatives in the Senedd. I will of course keep people aware of what is happening but the usual problems are still appearing. Lack of appointments, cost of taxis to Bryntirion for thise without transport. Lack of evening appointments for those in work and the underused Markham clinic. If anything else just let me know.

Any thing else you want to put on here let me know please.

Just to bring everyone up to date regarding Penylan Road, the community council had an excellent meeting with Gemma Baker and Layton which raised and discussed the problems. A letter from us was subsequently sent and a reply was not received, however ig is being followed up and as soon as we hear something we will let everyone know.
The letter addressed the problems on Penylan Road but also included possible answers to those problems. At our meeting last night, we also discussed everything again and are now contacting GoSafe ourselves to see what help is available and how to go about getting that help. As said above, as soon as we hear something we will let people know.

Just a heads up for people, it's now 7 months since Bryntirion came back into Aneurin Bevan Board fold. I would like to do a review of the surgery since then, have things improved etc? Or even have they stayed the same, any messages will be confidential but will ultimately be sent to our representatives in the Senedd. So send them to me, tell your friends, family etc.

Apologies for not being on here but I'm back!!! Lol.
Anyway, on the Caerphilly council page, they are advertising the Oakdale Community Fund, if you run a business/charity etc, have a look if you're eligible, grants are available. Share to other people as well please or just tell them.

Don't forget the cycling road race coming through Markham at approximately 1.15, the last time Geraint Thomas will be racing. Come and show your support but safely please. There will be rolling road closures on the day.

Apologies to everyone I was given the wrong information about the cycling, it is NOT tomorrow but next week. I will verify the information before I post it. Apologies to everyone.

30/08/2025

Please note, the cycle race is tomorrow and Abernant Road in Markham will be closed off whilst the cyclists are going through Abernant Road. It would be nice to see people supporting them so hopefully fingers and everything else crossed for the rain to ease off.

Hello this long time.
Will people who live in Abernant Road in Markham please note that the council will be tarmacing the road on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The work will start early roughly 8 o'clock and the council would like everyone's cars moved out of the way so that they can finish everything off on time and cause the least amount of problems as possible.

There are also notices up about cycling which is coming through the village, would people like to go and give some support to the cyclists as they pass through? I will post more details as soon as I can.

If you have lost an item on Penylan Road, could you contact Gemma Baker but you will need a description to prove it is yours. I hope it's returned to its owner.

I didn't post this yesterday because I don't have the words to say exactly how people feel, however lots of people are aware of the tragedy that befell a local family when they lost two members so tragically on holiday. We all wish to pass on our sincerest and deepest condolences to all the family.
There are various things taking place to help the family and now there will be a fundraiser involving Pengam Boys and Girls. A match has been arranged and will be taking place on Saturday May 24th. ( More details are available on their page from which I took the information.)
