Argoed Community Council Argoed Community Council is located at the upper-most part of the Sirhowy Valley within the Caerphilly County Borough.

The Community Council represents and serves four small rural communities in South East Wales: Argoed, Hollybush, Manmoel and Markham.

Are there any suggestions about what you would like to see on here? I'm already going to use it to give people a heads up about what help if any will be available to them this winter. What else but no political or religious posts please? There will eventually be posts about whatever Christmas activities are happening but what is happening until then?

Me again, Argoed Hall is still looking for a caretaker for 7 hours a week. Any local people interested in earning some money can look on their page to find out how to apply. They are still looking for committee members as well. Enjoy meeting people and helping out then why not join the committee.
Argoed Community Council is also still looking for a community councillor for Argoed, we meet up for 2 hours a month in alternate villages and don't bite!! ( well not very often. Lol) So come on Argoed, we need your input. A similar post on here resulted in us getting 2 new councillors from Hollybush so come on, you know you want to join us.

Argoed Community Council have received a grant which will enable us to give out a small packed lunch to children in our villages. I will post further details when we have finalised the details, I can only say that we will be giving them out on two days, because of allergies etc, there will be a form for the parents to sign to show they accept them. I will post all the details as soon as I can and hope the children will enjoy them.

Well fellow human beings, our community council is now looking for a community councillor for Hollybush. First of all, a massive thank you to Andy who kept us up to date with things in Hollybush, you will be missed by us all but thank you for your help. If anyone from Hollybush would like to join us please let us know but I will say anyone who wants to join us will need to undertake training which is done online and is compulsory.

Talking of Hollybush, I was saddened to see that the Ancient Druid Inn has burnt down. A slice of Welsh history is now gone but I am glad that no human or animals were hurt. As someone who grew up in Hollybush I have lots of memories of that place as do my sisters and brothers.

Having just been told by British Gas how much my bills will be rising on July 1st, ( £5 per week for gas and electricity together and then more increases later on in the year. )I thought I'd do a round up of help that will be available later in the year.
Pensioners will have their winter fuel payments and more details are available online so check your details are held so that you can receive it especially if this is the first year you are eligible. Some pensioners will also be eligible for the Warm Home discount but this is only paid if you are in receipt of certain benefits so please check your eligibility. There will also be cold weather payments but again it's for those on certain benefits. I apologise if people think it is too early to go on about especially as we still hopefully have some warm weather to look forward to but if you need to check eligibility please do as soon as you can and set any application processes in motion. If you need energy advice please phone the NEST scheme on 08088082244 to see what advice they can give you on energy etc. It's a Welsh government scheme so the advice is free.
I will put more details on here if I hear anything else especially as we head towards the colder weather.

Hello this long time, been checking in so took off the football things sorry. Just to remind people we have community councillors in our villages so if you see anything in our villages that you think both the community council and Caerphilly council should know about, please tell us.

We have informed people that we will have money available for the community defibs. All of us on the community council hope this will help in the future.

Argoed Village Hall need help and are looking for someone to help look after the hall. Please check with them because this is a paid position and a few hours are available every week. They are also looking for committee members so check with them. The Hall puts on so many things and the choir practice on a Monday is a joy to hear. ( The community council holds its meetings in there on a Monday so hear them.)

Speaking of choirs, there is a new one meeting in Markham Leisure centre so contact them for details as well please.

As always, I will try and find out if there is help for people available especially when we are facing a rise in our electric and gas bills soon. If it continues there will be another hard winter coming up so hopefully any help available can be put in place before things deteriorate too much. I will post on here anyway.

Onto the darlings of e_ harley street, Aneurin Bevan Health Board have been justifiably admonished over their handling of the contracts given out to them. A newspaper report sets it all out. It's about time but personally I think they need to lose some of their big salaries because of their ineptitude and the way patients in those surgeries affected were treated. I mean both Aneurin Bevan Health Board and the e- harley street directors by that remark. I am still taking viewpoints on the surgery since Aneurin Bevan took it back over and will be again handing it over to our representatives in the Senedd. I will of course keep people aware of what is happening but the usual problems are still appearing. Lack of appointments, cost of taxis to Bryntirion for thise without transport. Lack of evening appointments for those in work and the underused Markham clinic. If anything else just let me know.
