This Saturday is Global Wellness Day and this year’s theme is all about joy.

So our young adults have been spending time thinking about the things that bring them joy.

They’ve been writing them down and adding them to a poster that we can all look at as a reminder - because joy doesn’t always have to be something big.

It can be your favourite tune, family, your four legged friends, being creative, baking, spending time with friends,, learning something new, or simply having a good day.

These little reminders matter.

They help us pause, notice the positives and celebrate the things that make us feel good.

So now we’d love to ask you…

What brings you joy?

It's been another wonderful week here at Access Abillity.

From comic strip creation in Digital Skills to British Sign Language, our young adults have really enjoyed learning different ways of communicating.

But our highlight has to be planting the strawberries, cucumber seeds and flowers and finding out why biodiversity is so important in a garden.

"What do you do at Access Ability?”

We get asked this all the time and our anwer is always - a lot!

We support young adults with autism and disabilities in ways that help them build confidence, independence, skills and readiness for employment.

That might include CV writing, interview preparation, work placement support, cooking, travel confidence, volunteering, enterprise projects, creative sessions, wellbeing activities, social groups and trips out.

Some of it looks like employability support, some of it looks like life skills and some of it looks like a brilliant group activity where someone joins in for the first time and leaves so much more confident in their abilities.

Which part of Access Ability would you like us to see more of?

Another week, another brilliant mix of activities at Access Ability.

This week our young adults have been working on practical work skills, planting tomatoes and exploring mark-making for abstract painting.

Our highlight has to be seeing everyone’s confidence grow, from trying something new to getting involved and sharing what they’ve created.

What's been the highlight of your week? We'd love to know.

When young adults from Access Ability are welcomed into real workplaces, something truly brilliant happens.

They get the chance to build their confidence, practise real life skills, meet new people and experience the joy of being part of a team.

But the impact does not stop there.

For employers, placements can bring fresh energy, new perspectives and a real sense of purpose into the workplace.

As Gem from Cancer Research shared, watching and helping young people grow their skills and confidence, while interacting with staff, volunteers and customers, brightens her day every day.

That's why local employer support matters so much - the difference it can bring to everyone involved.

But you will not be alone in this process as we work closely with employers to make placements feel clear, supported and realistic.

You're not expected to know everything and we'll be there to support both the young adult and you, so everyone feels confident about the opportunity.

So if you're a Lancashire employer and you would like to explore offering a meaningful work opportunity to one of our young adults, we'd love to hear from you.

A small opportunity from you could make a huge difference to someone’s future.

If you'd like to find out more, send us a DM.

Welcome to Access Ability.

Based in Blackburn, we support young adults with autism and disabilities to build confidence, develop life skills and take meaningful steps towards work and independence.

That support looks different for every person.

For one young adult it might be travel confidence, for another it might be cooking, teamwork, CV writing, interview preparation, creative sessions, wellbeing activities, volunteering, enterprise projects or getting ready for a supported placement.

Over the next few months we’ll be sharing more of what happens here day to day, so parents, carers, referrers, employers and our local community can see the work, the progress and the people behind Access Ability.

Creativity has no labels!

Our created art sessions provide young adults the freedom to experiment with new mediums, refine their skills, and watch their confidence grow with every project.

We love to see our young people gaining confidence with different styles and mediums!
