We’ve listened to communities across Lancashire. We’ve shared what we heard. Now, the next step is action.

Our Lancashire Against Hate work identified clear priorities for creating a safer, stronger and more inclusive Lancashire, and Inclusive North is committed to helping turn those priorities into practical change.

Moving forward, we’ll be working with communities and partners to:

• Build a stronger Lancashire Against Hate partnership and improve relationships across communities, grassroots organisations and public services.
• Make sure grassroots voices and lived experience help shape the priorities and solutions.
• Improve coordination and communication when hate incidents or community tensions emerge.
• Challenge misinformation and harmful narratives that can deepen division.
• Strengthen community intelligence so emerging issues can be identified and understood earlier.
• Turn learning into practical responses that tackle both hate and some of the conditions that allow it to grow.

There is no single solution to hate. Creating lasting change requires communities, organisations and public services to work together.

The event helped start the conversation. The findings have helped give us direction.

Now, together, we need to turn that direction into action.

Black History Month is here!
October 2026 is the celebration of Black History month.

This Black History Month, we at Inclusive North recognize the achievements, resilience, and hardships of Black communities - and we’re reflecting on how that history informs our work toward a fairer, more inclusive society.

The findings from Lancashire Against Hate give us an important message: tackling hate cannot be only about responding when incidents occur. We also need to focus on preventing harm and building stronger communities before tensions escalate.

A quick and effective response is essential when hate incidents happen. But our ability to respond well depends on the relationships, trust and communication we build with communities every day.

The Lancashire Against Hate event has provided a valuable foundation for this work. The next step is turning what we have heard into practical, coordinated action alongside communities, grassroots organisations and partners across Lancashire.

The conversation has begun; now we need to keep it moving and turn these findings into meaningful change.

What would a stronger, more coordinated response to hate look like across Lancashire?

At our Lancashire Against Hate event, participants explored this question alongside another equally important one: how can we respond more effectively when hate incidents and community tensions occur?

The discussions highlighted several areas where change is needed, from better coordination between communities, grassroots organisations and agencies, to faster communication that can challenge misinformation before tensions escalate. Participants also highlighted the importance of building trust in reporting, strengthening local community intelligence, improving education and awareness, and making sure there is clear accountability when hate incidents occur.

One message stood out: strong relationships need to exist before a crisis happens, not be built during one.

The challenge now is to turn these conversations into meaningful action. That means creating a Lancashire-wide approach that listens to communities, learns from evidence, and brings organisations together to respond effectively when hate occurs.

This is where the next phase of Lancashire Against Hate begins.

We were delighted to attend the South Ribble & Chorley VCFSE Funding and Networking Fair at St Mary’s Community Centre in Leyland. The event united voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups, offering a chance to meet local and national funders, discover available support and build useful connections. We shared information about the Phoenix Community Trust and the assistance we can offer organisations across the North West.

Several groups also booked one-to-one sessions with us to talk through their organisations, explore development opportunities and receive tailored guidance. Above all, the fair gave organisations space to connect, exchange ideas and spot potential partnerships for the future. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the day so valuable for the local VCFSE sector!

Recently, the team at Inclusive North, with the CEO Naz Zaman, welcomed High Sheriff of Lancashire David Collinge. There was a discussion around sensitive topics that we are facing within Lancashire and on a national stage regarding ethnically diverse communities and the need to be able to make a real impact and understand how to support equitable outcomes.

There was open and honest dialogue regarding taking shared responsibility for integration, trust, and honesty. This is one of the next steps from our Lancashire Against Hate Event, where we can start making real change to make an impact in Lancashire.

We are deeply saddened by the death of Professor Jason Arday.

Jason was more than a professor and more than the subject of headlines. He was a son, partner, father, brother, teacher, and friend. Today, we remember the person behind the public story and hold his family and loved ones in our thoughts.

His death also leaves us with serious questions that deserve reflection. Jason's family has spoken about the sustained abuse and harassment he experienced. The level of media attention surrounding him was extraordinary, with one analysis identifying 249 articles across 15 national outlets in just 22 days.

Accountability and scrutiny are important. However, we must also ask who is subjected to that scrutiny, how stories are reported and whether the same standards are applied equally.

For Black people, individual mistakes or failings can too often become wider public judgements about credibility, belonging and whether they deserve to occupy certain spaces. There is often little room to be imperfect, human or simply themselves.

What responsibility do institutions and the media have for the environments they create? How do race, representation and unequal standards shape who receives public attention and how that attention is experienced?

We hope Jason's death will not become another news cycle that passes without meaningful reflection.

At Inclusive North, we will continue working to challenge the systems and structures that perpetuate racial inequality and advocate for fairer, more equitable outcomes for Black and racially minoritised communities.

Jason's life, achievements and contributions deserve to be remembered. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and everyone grieving this unimaginable loss. We also respect the family's request for privacy.

Rest in peace, Jason.
