Arts Alive is saddened to hear of the passing of Heather Alexander.

It was a privilege to work with Heather and to witness her exceptional talent, creativity, and dedication to the arts. She made a significant contribution to theatre throughout her career and will be remembered by many for her warmth, professionalism, and outstanding performances.

Our thoughts are with Heather’s family and friends at this difficult time.

It is with much sadness that we bring you the news that our wonderful client Heather Alexander passed away last weekend following a short illness.

Heather was a fighter to the end and lived her life to the full, not letting on how poorly she was.

In the last year she was still fully committed to her wonderful one woman shows, getting 5 star reviews and making plans for their future runs.

Heather had a wonderful and varied career, from strutting her stuff with Hot Gossip on the BBC, performing alongside household names on the West End in plays and most recently creating her own works such as Havisham and Becoming Mrs Danvers.

She had an infectious energy and a huge sense of fun, we will miss her very much.

10 years of RTDI ✨

We’re proud to have been a partner for the Touring Dance Initiative - a 10-year project that has helped bring brilliant dance performances, residencies and participatory projects into rural and community venues across the country.

RTDI has been shaped by artists, touring schemes, venues, audiences and partners working together to support dance in rural places.

Over the coming weeks, RTDI will be looking back at some of the performances, people and moments that have shaped the project.

The recent Arts Council report into the state of touring in the UK said ‘touring is in crisis, although ... not entirely broken'. Abigail Reeve, director of the National Rural Touring Forum analyses the truth of that statement from the point of view of rural touring.

✨ Tourette's awareness day ✨

Tourette’s is often misunderstood, but greater awareness helps break down stigma and create more inclusive spaces for everyone. It’s about listening, learning, and making sure people feel seen and respected in their everyday lives. 💖

Some of our Flicks venues are showing the film 'I swear' which tells the true story of John Davidson, diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at 15. Targeted as 'insane' by peers, he struggled with Tourette, involving physical and vocal tics, intrusive thoughts, OCD and swearing, and was ridiculed at school and beaten as an adult. Campaigning for better understanding and acceptance, he finds his life's purpose and accepts his MBE in 2019. This film is moving, addresses social issues, and works as a feelgood comedy.

9/10 ⭐'Excellent film, cinematically beautiful and one to watch on the big screen to appreciate the big landscapes. A very sensitive, subtle, well observed portrayal of the male character relationships while following their adventure with its challenges and joys , and the healing benefits of spending time in nature'-Liz from Sparc Thea Tre
