Firstly, we would like to thank the wonderful Barratt Redrow staff working at our local Wallace Fields site for donating a large quantity of ex-timber fencing which we will recycle in our workshop at Springburn Park.
This timber which would normally go to landfill will be used to build items to the benefit of the local community by our Shedders, many of whom previously worked in the construction industry.
It seems a simple gesture that benefits both parties, and its great for the environment. It’s so much more than that!
Without the support and generosity of companies such as Barratt Redwood, John Adams Supplies, Allied Vehicles, Trespass, BAM Construct UK, and local small businesses our Men’s Shed couldn’t survive.
Yesterday our fork lift truck broke down. Thankfully, one of our Shedders is a retired motor mechanic. He removed the damaged starter motor and took it to a local repair shop, Ross Autos at Crowhill Road. He told them it was from the Men’s Shed, and they repaired the starter motor free of charge.
Our Men’s Shed is a safe space for men to spend their time and socialise away from pub’s, bookies, pool halls, drugs and alcohol.
We address loneliness and isolation, in particular, men who have lost their life partners, it can be a difficult time for them.
Our Men’s Shed gives them a purpose again, a reason to get out of bed, get out the house, meet and socialise with other likeminded men.
It restores their pride, and overnight they have a new circle of friends. They regularly meet up and spend time together outwith the Shed.
We would also like to thank the nurse practitioners from the Stobhill Campus, Rowanbank Clinic, the Community Links Practitioners connected to local GP Surgeries who often fundraise and donate the proceeds to our Men’s Shed.
Since we first opened in January 2019 local residents have supported our charity by donating tools and equipment as well as purchasing items that our Shedders make in our workshops.
From everyone at Springburn Park Men’s Shed we THANK YOU ALL!
