142 hours off help. An estimated 170,000 Himalayan balsam plants removed!

A huge thank you to our recent corporate volunteer teams from Wesleyan, WSP and the Environment Agency, who have helped us tackle one of Highbury's biggest conservation challenges.

Over the last few weeks, volunteers have been hard at work removing Himalayan balsam, helping to create a more wildlife-friendly space for native plants and animals.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and got stuck in. Your enthusiasm and teamwork has made a real impact.

Lots of our wonderful volunteers have supported Kings Heath Action for Refugees in the past, this year we are taking a pause from KHARnival! But we still support this great charity. Can you give them some time this summer? ☀️

📢 Volunteer Call Out!

Kings Heath Action for Refugees are looking for volunteers to work with our grassroots charity and support our fundraising efforts.

This will mostly involve getting involved in designing and selling our original merchandise at markets across South Birmingham, and having conversations with the public about how and why we support refugees across the city (we will support you with this!) 🛍️

Giving as little or as much time as you are able, we are particularly looking for people who would be interested in helping us to raise funds supporting refugeees and asylum seekers in Birmingham and in transit through Europe.

Drop us a DM for more info! 📧

We're lucky to have a beautiful collection of Rhododendrons here at Highbury, putting on a stunning display at this time of year. 🌸

But not all Rhododendrons are quite so welcome - some of ours are Rhododendron ponticum, an invasive species that can spread quickly and crowd out other plants. We've now started the process of removing the ponticum to help protect the rest of the site and give native plants more space to thrive! 🌿
