Our purpose is to look after patients, their families, and staff across our hospitals by providing the added extras that are over and above what the NHS can fund - from state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research to tranquil and reflective garden spaces, activities and toys to help patients’ and their family’s well-being. We help patients of all ages - from the tiniest premature babies, who need life-saving care so that they can thrive, to our older patients who need activities and programmes to help their physical and mental well-being while in hospital. It's amazing what a change in environment can do. 💙

From making physio and therapy appointments more fun, to distracting a scared kid from a medical procedure, play and toys can mean the difference between fear and comfort. ✨

🩺 In our hospitals continue to fund equipment and support so that staff can make every child's visit as pleasant as possible. From distracting a child from a blood test to helping make regular appointments more engaging for them play helps children to be confident, and able to speak and engage with the staff who are treating them. This makes their care more effective and helps staff to build trust. 💛

The QE Brain Tumour Fund supports brain tumour patients from across the country as they go through their treatment journey at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

We have been able to fund various projects over the years, from state-of-the-art equipment, providing the best treatment possible, to free accommodation close to the hospital, keeping families together through the most challenging times.

Brain tumour research remains a central aim of the Charity, and we are proud to have funded a Research Nurse at the QE, providing vital research into brain tumours.

This month is Free Wills Month, a national initiative to give everyone the opportunity to sort their Will easily.

Making a Will is the best way to make sure your wishes are known and can be respected. Despite this, up to 50% of adults don't have one.

Creating a Will is simple, especially with our Free Will offers. To make the process as simple as possible, we have 2 options for you to choose from.

You can quickly fill out a form through a link on our website, thanks to our partners, Octopus Legacy. If you prefer in person, you can pop into Talbots Law or HCB Solicitors and quote 'UHB Charity Free Will Service' for a standard or mirror Will, at no cost to you.

Both these options also allow you to leave a gift in your Will to a cause that matters most to you. Leaving a gift is an incredible way to support a charity and create a lasting legacy that will help future generations by funding state-of-the-art equipment, life-changing research, or support for patients and their families.

Giving children the time and space to play while they are in hospital is incredibly important. 🩵

It helps them to be calmer and more comfortable while they undergo medical procedures, as well as helping keep them active and less stressed during long visits. 🫶

Over the last few years we have gradually transformed the paediatric spaces at Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull Hospitals, to make spaces where children can be less stressed during visits, feel more comfortable. This means their treatment can go more smoothly for them and their families.

Being able to do a medical scan the whole body at once, instead of putting together different images will be a game changer for cancer care.

Fitting the whole body in a single image makes it easier to see whole systems of the body as one, especially ones that cover the whole body like the Lymphatic system, which cancer can use to spread through.

That is why we are so excited about our work to fund a Total Body PET-CT Scanner in Birmingham. ✨

The new scanner will provide medical staff with clearer images, faster. Helping them to track a person's cancer, even if it has advanced or become secondary cancer somewhere else in the body. This means that it will help track the disease even for cancers traditionally diagnosed with other methods, such as breast cancer. 🩺

Giving patients the answers they need and a clearer understanding of what is happening to their body. 💙

🤩 We would like to wish Black Sabbath legend, Tony Iommi, huge congratulations on receiving an MBE. 🎸

Tony has been an amazing supporter of the Charity and in past year he raffled off two of his impressive guitars, raising more than £80,000 to support cancer patients at Heartlands Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The iconic guitarist officially opened the brand-new £2.65 million Haematology and Oncology Unit at Heartlands Hospital earlier this year, alongside Haematologist Consultant Dr Shankara Paneesha and Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising at UHB Charity with staff, patients, and supporters all there to celebrate.

Tony said: “Whatever you can do to help patients get through this is great. They need that support, anything that can make things more comfortable. It was wonderful to be involved so they can have new equipment and to improve their experience. It’s a good thing to do, and it’s going to help a lot of people.”

Thank you Tony for your kindness and generosity towards the Charity and patients, families and staff. We’re thrilled that you’ve been recognised for the incredible work you do. 🫶

We’d like to say a big thank you to Birmingham Unique Network and Iwan Thomas Associates, who hosted a dinner at Del Villaggio over the weekend and raised an incredible £1,171 for QEHB Charity.

The money raised will go towards funding support and equipment to help people diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In the UK, 10,000 men are diagnosed every year with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. Getting diagnosed earlier makes a huge difference to the outcome, giving people more effective treatment and more time with their loved ones.

Events like this help to improve statistics by supporting cancer patients during their diagnoses and treatment.
