City Centre social coffee morning was held on Saturday 3rd of October 2026.. unfortunately our speakers did not manage to attend to speak to our members but gave the members a chance to chat and discuss conversations amongst themselves.

Birmingham IA was given the chance to attend Walsall Stoma Nurses Open day. Today was Ostomy Awareness Day and we got to speak to some of Walsall Manor Hospitals Patients who had the chance to speak to Stoma nurses and Exhibitors and ourselves and Colostomy Uk an Holly Trust Bowel Cancer Charity about their issues that they may have,And a chance to chat to other Stoma patients. I was blessed to hear so many amazing people's journeys of how they become to have their Stomas.

A bit of research piece for our members to read, it's good to hear that research is improving daily for people who live with Crohn's and Colitis

BREAKING NEWS: A new £50 million research programme has been launched aiming to develop potential cures for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other inflammatory conditions.

The new Medical Research Council research centre, led by the University of Birmingham, will receive £50 million in funding over the next 14 years.

Rather than only looking at ways to control inflammation and manage symptoms, researchers want to understand how the immune system can be reset and damaged tissue repaired, with the aim of achieving lasting remission or potentially a cure.

Scientists from seven UK universities and Kyoto University in Japan will work together on the programme, studying what causes these diseases and developing new treatments that target their underlying causes.

IBD, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is specifically named as one of the conditions researchers will focus on.

There is currently no cure for Crohn’s or colitis. This research is about trying to change that — developing treatments that could restore immune balance and repair damaged tissue, with the hope of reducing or even eliminating the need for lifelong medication.
