Most pilgrims walk past this sacred spot without even realising its significance… 🕋

At the foot of the Holy Kaaba are eight rare marble pieces known as Musalla Jibreel.

It is traditionally believed to mark the place where Angel Jibreel عليه السلام taught the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ how to perform the five daily prayers following the miraculous Night Journey and Ascension.

Just imagine—the salah we pray every day was demonstrated at this blessed location. SubhanAllah.

More than 14 specially prepared utensils, vessels and tools are brought into the Holy Kaaba for its sacred annual washing—from elegant copper jugs and containers to brooms, wall wipers, cloths, floor-cleaning tools and a specially equipped trolley and ladder.

The interior is cleansed using blessed Zamzam water blended with fragrant Taif rose water, premium oud oil, rose perfume and amber. The walls are carefully wiped, the floors are washed and dried, and the sacred interior is beautifully perfumed.

This tradition recalls the historic Conquest of Makkah, when Rasulullah ﷺ entered the Holy Kaaba after its idols and images had been removed, restoring the House of Allah to pure Tawheed and the worship of Allah alone.

Even today, the Holy Kaaba is washed once every Hijri year during the month of Muharram, under the supervision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques or his representative.

Threads of devotion, woven across generations.

Work on this magnificent Hizam belt began in 1223 AH (1808–1809 CE), with the final date recorded as 1231 AH (1815–1816 CE)—an extraordinary eight-year journey.

The changing styles of embroidery reveal that many skilled hands contributed, possibly individuals and families working on different sections. Though their names are unknown, their hearts and craftsmanship were united in creating one beautiful Kiswah for the Holy Kaaba.

A breathtaking Ottoman door cover of the Holy Kaaba, dated 1204 Hijri and commissioned by Sultan Selim III.

This close-up video reveals the remarkable embroidery, traditional couching technique, elegant Thuluth Arabic calligraphy and Qur’anic verses woven into the design. Rich shades of green, red, orange, black, white, silver and gold come together to create a truly majestic masterpiece of Islamic art and heritage.

The film beautifully captures the Kiswa Exhibition held at North Lincolnshire Museum, celebrating Islamic art, history, culture and heritage while bringing together people from different communities and backgrounds

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who offered their support, mentorship and guidance throughout the exhibition. We are also deeply grateful to the dignitaries, community leaders, organisations, volunteers and visitors who travelled from near and far to attend and be part of this special occasion.

A heartfelt thank you to North Lincolnshire Museum for giving Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery the opportunity to host our Kiswa Exhibition over five incredible days.

It was a privilege to display a remarkable collection of sacred artefacts, sharing their history, heritage and significance with visitors from across the community.

We are also delighted to see the interview recorded on the day now released by Heritage Fund, capturing the importance of these artefacts and the story behind the exhibition.

A special thank you to Catherine Spence from North Lincolnshire Museum, Heritage Fund, Abid Bhai, Chairman of the Interfaith Group, and everyone who supported, attended and helped make the exhibition such a memorable success.
