📢 ONE LAST PUSH – NORTHFIELD TRANSPORT SURVEY! 🚌🚶‍♀️🚕🚆

We’ve now heard from over 100 people about travelling in and around Northfield — and some clear issues are coming through.

⚠️ 46 people have raised safety concerns
👥 41 people say busy spaces make travelling difficult
💷 36 people have highlighted the cost of travel
♿ 27 people have raised problems with steps or a lack of ramps
📍 25 people say stops are too far from where they need to be

And when we asked how safe people feel travelling around Northfield, 39 people said they feel unsafe or very unsafe.

These findings will be shared with key decision-makers across Birmingham in November — so this is our last push to hear from as many people as possible.

You do not need to be disabled to take part.

📢 NORTHFIELD – HAVE YOUR SAY ON TRANSPORT! 🚌🚆♿

Thank you to the 55 people who have already completed our Northfield Transport Survey.

The responses so far are highlighting some real concerns:

⚠️ People don’t always feel safe when travelling
🚧 Steps, missing ramps and broken lifts are creating barriers
🚌 Overcrowding and inaccessible bus stops are making journeys harder
💷 For some people, the cost of travel is a barrier
😟 Busy spaces can make travelling overwhelming or difficult

📅 In November, we’ll be taking what you tell us directly to key decision-makers across Birmingham.

And we want to hear from EVERYONE – not just disabled people.

Any of us can become disabled or experience access needs at any point. Making transport more accessible doesn’t just benefit disabled people – it makes Northfield better for everyone.

When people think about accessible travel, they often think about buses, trains or wheelchairs. But for many disabled people, driving comes with its own barriers too.

In our latest video, we explore some of the challenges that can come with driving and parking when you have autism or cerebral palsy – from sensory overload and fatigue to inaccessible parking and the extra planning that many people never see.

Everyone’s experience is different, but understanding these barriers is the first step towards creating more accessible communities.

💙 Not every disability is visible.

Many people live with disabilities or long-term conditions that you can't see, including autism, learning disabilities, chronic pain, hearing loss, epilepsy, mental health conditions and many more.

A little patience, kindness and understanding can make a huge difference.

Remember—you can't always tell what someone is experiencing just by looking at them.

🎙️ Behind the scenes…

Thursday was dedicated to spending some time editing the recordings from our visit to Northfield Beach on 22 July.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear people’s experiences, ideas and perspectives, and we’re looking forward to sharing the finished podcast with you soon.

Co-production doesn’t stop when the conversations end. Every recording is carefully reviewed to make sure people’s voices are represented accurately and respectfully.

🌟 One Small Change Saturday

Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

This week’s small change:

🚲 Keep dropped kerbs clear.

A dropped kerb might not seem important, but if it’s blocked by a parked car, bike, bin or advertising board, it can stop someone from crossing the road safely.

For many disabled people, something that takes seconds to move can make the difference between completing a journey or having to turn back.

🚗 Let’s talk about transport.

Have you ever changed your plans because getting there felt too difficult?

For many disabled people, transport isn’t just about the journey itself. It’s about whether it’s possible at all.

It could be:
🚍 Public transport that’s difficult to use
🚗 Parking that’s too far away
🚶 Uneven pavements or dropped kerbs
🚦 Roadworks or diversions
🧠 Anxiety, sensory overload or unfamiliar places
♿ Access that looks available but doesn’t meet your needs

We’re collecting experiences from disabled people living in and around Northfield to help us understand what needs to change.
