Summer HAF? Completed it mate 😎😎

Yesterday was Golden Stars Kids Club last day of Bring it on Brum activities - marking the end of 4 straight weeks of summer madness!

Yesterday we had our award ceremony, where we shared the various projects the young people had been working on, including their film project with We Media UK (a massive shout to Aaron for the custom certificates!). πŸ†πŸŽ₯🎞

We also awarded and distributed prizes to young people for various achievments (including most likely to get a job as a youth worker at the centre!). πŸŽ—πŸ†

Shoutout to everyone who has made this such a great summer, especially during this heat πŸ₯΅πŸŒ‘🌞 - the staff, the volunteers, parents and, most importantly, the kids!

Haven't had a chance to post much this week but will be catching up in the following days. We're having some much needed R&R πŸ˜΄πŸ˜΄πŸ’€πŸ›

Catching up on posts we missed during the week! Wednesday at Golden Stars Kids Club HAF was British day for cultural week!

We had the amazing Simon Fenton Arts come down to run his canvas painting workshops with the young people - Simon's become one of our staple favourite workshop facilitators over the years!

WeMedia came down again to wrap up filming scenes for the young people's film project, with Immortal Humans CIC filming some behind the scenes (and bringing extra gaming consoles for tournaments)!

We were also invited to visit the local historic Aston Parish Church over the road, where some of the young people got a grand tour of the building. Thanks to APC volunteers for being so welcoming!

We also celebrated ANOTHER birthday!

And most importantly the Aston 614 mums made fish and chips for lunch!

Happy belated Jamaican Independence Day! πŸ‡―πŸ‡²πŸ‡―πŸ‡²πŸ”ˆπŸ”ˆ We had such a great time yesterday for Golden Stars Kids Club's Jamaican cultural day, and the end of their 3rd week for Bring it on Brum HAF summer programme!

We had Billy Dee come down to run an awesome Steel Pan workshop with the young people - so fun even officers and staff from Salvation Army's THQ and DHQ had a go!

CeeZee's ran a deliciius open waffle dessert area for Golden Stars' extended Holiday club for non-HAF children & the wider community - highly recommended family run business!

Compass Birmingham's Mental Health Support Team set up to share important info and run hands on workshops for the young people and parents around mental health.

HM Craft Parties ran creative Jamaican themed art workshops where young people got to design their own bags and shop items!

Immortal Humans CIC ran a sound system and live dub workshop - sharing the history of Jamaican sound system and Dub & Reggae culture, and how it's influenced modern music across the world. The young people used these skills to run their own dance in the afternoon!

Aston 614 mums cooking up a storm for lunch - jerk chicken burgers, dumplings, jerk salmon, rice and more!

Also a massive thank you to officers and staff from The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland Territory who came from West Midlands DHQ and all the way from London THQ to show their support and also get involved in the activities with the kids (especially the steel pans!).

Such a great day! Next year marks Jamaica's 65th year of independence, so we'll be coming back bigger and better!
