Do you know someone who could help make our Summer Fete raffle brilliant?

You might not have anything to donate yourself, but you may know a local business, workplace, salon, restaurant, theatre, attraction or contact who could offer something.

Experiences are especially lovely for the people we support. Previous winners have enjoyed trips to places like the theatre and the zoo - things they may not have thought about doing otherwise.

Every prize donated gets a mention, and it all helps make our much-loved fete even better.

If someone springs to mind, please ask them to contact Tracy at [email protected].

We have something lovely coming up, and we would love you to join us.

On Friday 26 June, we're hosting Create and Connect - an afternoon for adults with sight loss at St Thomas Church, Garretts Green.

The session will bring people together through art, poetry, storytelling and conversation, with no previous writing or art experience needed. Your advice and experiences will help create a book to support others living with a visual impairment.

Refreshments and transport to the venue are included.

To find out more or reserve your place, please contact Hayley on [email protected] or 0121 281 5811.

This Carers Week, we want to hear from you.

Is there a carer in your life who deserves a thank you?

It could be a parent, partner, sibling, friend or neighbour. Someone who helps with appointments, makes the calls, sorts the transport, checks in, keeps routines going, or simply shows up week after week for someone they love.

Drop their name in the comments and tell us one thing they do that means the most.

Let’s give carers the thank you they do not always hear.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say a proper thank you.

Volunteering at Focus can mean lots of different things. These photos show just some of them, including transport, befriending, art, admin and supporting activities.

To every single person who gives their time to Focus Birmingham - whether you help in our day services, drive our minibuses, support our activities or simply show up consistently for the people we support - we are genuinely grateful.

You make Focus what it is. 💙

Volunteers’ Week is the perfect time for us to say thank you to everyone who has volunteered with Focus over the years, and to those who continue to give their time to help our services run and support people to live life more fully.

First, we want to highlight Sally, one of our volunteer Telephone Befrienders.

Having experienced sight loss herself, Sally understands how isolating that change can feel. Our befriending service offers regular contact from a friendly voice that understands the adjustment.

Sally said: “Sometimes it’s simply contact with another human being that makes all the difference.”

What often surprises people about telephone befriending is how simple the support can be. It does not need to be complicated. A regular call, a familiar voice and someone who listens can become an important part of someone’s week.

That is why we would encourage anyone who has thought about volunteering to get involved. Whether you have lived experience, a skill to share, or simply time to spend with people through our day service, coffee morning or befriending, we would love to hear from you.

Find out more at focusbirmingham.org.uk or drop us a message.

Have you or someone you know been affected by sight loss?

We offer one-to-one and group counselling sessions delivered by a BACP registered counsellor. These give people space to talk, explore what they are going through and develop ways to manage the stress and anxiety that can come with sight loss.

To find out more, call our Support Line on 0121 393 4849 and we will guide you through the services available.

Support like this makes a real difference, but it can only continue with the backing of people who believe in it.

If you are able to donate, your support helps us keep vital services available for people affected by sight loss and complex needs. Visit www.focusbirmingham.org.uk.
