Tracey's Dream & Friends

Tracey's Dream & Friends We support people with life limiting illnesses with the help of Birmingham Hospice. we also help patients at the hospice make memories we do a lot more

How we do this by supplying blankets throughout the winter, we help support the Hospice Foodbank. Whilst ill Tracey was brave and courageous and still wanted to enjoy life to the fullest, She unfortunately passed away just before her 50th birthday and one of her ambitions was to help others who were suffering the way she was.

Can you help us find the relatives of the first registered Children’s Nurse, Evelyn Margaret Hughes? 👩‍⚕️

Evelyn trained here in Birmingham at our Children’s Hospital from 1909 to 1912. She was the first children’s nurse to be admitted to the supplementary register.

We would love to get in touch with her relatives ahead of the first National Children’s Nurses’ Day on 30 June - please help us by spreading the word ❤️

After we shared the story of school boy Dylan, who collected Pokémon cards during his cancer treatment at our Children's Hospital, the incredible community rallied together and Dylan has been inundated with thousands of Pokémon cards.❤️

Pokemon helped Dylan, being a source of comfort throughout his treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, which he was diagnosed with at just two years old.

Since his recovery, Dylan is back at school, where staff have launched a Pokémon club to support his transition and help him reconnect with classmates.

My colleagues and I played Space Invaders almost every lunchtime in the local pub in the later 70s (and beyond).

We became quite good at it and learned some of the tricks to get a higher score such as counting the shots (21 rings a bell) and then waiting to shoot the spacecraft for extra points. Do you remember any other?

It was simple by today’s standards, but at the time it was completely addictive. Pubs that once had darts, dominoes, fruit machines and a jukebox suddenly had a new attraction. Even people who said they were “just having one go” often found themselves feeding in another 10p.

For many, Space Invaders was the start of a new era. It brought video games out of seaside arcades and into everyday places, where adults and teenagers could crowd round the same machine and chase the high score.
