πŸ’œ Preparing for a hospital appointment? You're not alone. πŸ’œ

"What should I bring?"
"How can I prepare my child?"
"What about my other children?"

If these questions sound familiar, you're not the only one. Hospital appointments can feel overwhelming, and it's completely normal to feel anxious about making sure everything is ready.

That's why Little Hearts Matter has created our Preparation for Hospital resource, packed with practical advice and helpful information to support you and your family before, during, and after your hospital visit.

Take the stress out of the unknown and feel more prepared for your next appointment.

πŸ’™ Good Luck Tom! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

We’re sending a huge good luck to Tom Morgan, who is taking on an extraordinary challenge for Little Hearts Matter in memory of Jack Negus.

This Friday, 28th August, Tom will set off to run the entire 177-mile Offa’s D**e National Trail, aiming to complete it in under 90 hours!

Tom’s connection with Jack goes back many years – 14 years ago, he nominated Jack for a BBC Pride of Somerset Youth Award, which Jack went on to win. Today, that connection comes full circle as Tom joins BBC Radio Somerset at 12.15pm to talk about Jack, his challenge and why he is supporting Little Hearts Matter. πŸ’™

Jack was a much-loved member and fantastic supporter of LHM, raising funds and awareness for our charity. Walking Offa’s D**e was also on Jack’s bucket list, making Tom’s decision to take on the full route in his memory especially meaningful.

177 miles in under 90 hours is an incredible undertaking, and we’ll be cheering Tom on all the way. Good luck, Tom – and thank you for doing something so special in Jack’s memory. πŸ’™

Our Youth Members Stepped Up to the Challenge!

What an incredible Youth Activity Weekend! Our youth members well and truly pushed themselves out of their comfort zones this year, taking on high ropes, the trek course, the giant swing, abseiling, zip lining, and even trying their hand at circus skills.

Facing heights, managing energy levels, and working through nerves isn't easy for anyone, but our members did it with courage and determination, supporting each other every step of the way. They showed what young people with half a working heart can achieve when given the chance. Watching them build confidence and celebrate their own achievements was honestly the best part of the weekend.

We are so proud of every single one of them.

WHAT. A. WEEKEND.

This weekend, Little Hearts Matter took over the Pioneer Centre near Kidderminster for our annual Youth Activity Weekend, and it did not disappoint!

We welcomed youth members and their siblings (aged 12-17) for a weekend packed with adventure, heart workshops, and something even more powerful: the chance to connect with other people their age who just get it.

❀️ Our youth members took on challenges they'd never tried before.
❀️ Learned more about their own heart conditions, together.
❀️ Built friendships that will last way beyond this weekend!

The energy, the courage, the laughter, it was everything.

Keep your eyes peeled this week as we share highlights from an unforgettable few days!

πŸ“šπŸ’™ A little library with a lot of heart!

When LHM supporter Meg Hall moved to a new community in Northwich with her husband Ben, she wanted to find a way to bring people together while continuing a family connection with Little Hearts Matter that goes back 30 years.

Ben was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), and Little Hearts Matter has been part of his family’s journey since his diagnosis. Over the years, Ben and his family have supported LHM in lots of different ways and now Meg has come up with a wonderful idea of her own!

The Queensgate Little Library is a community book swap where neighbours can leave or exchange a book. If someone spots a book they’d love but doesn’t have one to swap, they can make a donation to Little Hearts Matter instead. πŸ’™

Meg already has the support of neighbours and local councillors for the project, helping to spread a love of reading, build community spirit and raise awareness and funds for LHM.

Meg says:

β€œLittle Hearts Matter has supported our family for the past 30 years. LHM is amazing at providing support and information to families, on every step of their half a heart journey.”

We think it’s a brilliant idea. A huge thank you to Meg, Ben and everyone supporting the Queensgate Little Library! πŸ“–πŸ’™

Could your own hobby, idea or community bring people together for Little Hearts Matter? We’d love to hear what you have in mind.

πŸŽ“πŸ’œ Got your university place but feeling overwhelmed by accommodation?

Starting university is exciting, but it can also come with a lot of questions, especially for young people with half a working heart.

🏠 Should you live on or off campus?
🚌 What are the transport links like?
β™Ώ Do you need ground-floor accommodation or other adjustments? πŸ“
How close should you be to local healthcare services?

The good news? You don't have to figure it all out on your own.

At Little Hearts Matter, we've created our University with Half a Heart Guide to help you prepare for this exciting next chapter.

πŸŽ‰πŸ’™ They smashed it!

A huge congratulations and thank you to Clare and her cousin Vikki, who completed the Dundee Kiltwalk on Sunday in support of Little Hearts Matter, raising a fantastic Β£620! πŸ₯ΎπŸ‘

The pair took on the challenge inspired by Clare’s stepdaughter, Caitlin, who was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and recently celebrated her 25th birthday.

Having seen the support Little Hearts Matter has given Caitlin and her family over the years, Clare and Vikki wanted to give something back and what a brilliant way to do it. πŸ’™

β€œMyself and Vikki had the best experience doing the Kiltwalk and are over the moon with how much we have raised. Getting through the finish line with all the support was such a magical experience. It was definitely a challenging walk, but totally worthwhile knowing the cause we were doing it for.” – Clare

Thank you so much, Clare and Vikki, for taking on this challenge, and to everyone who supported and donated along the way. πŸ’™

Feeling inspired? Why not take on a challenge with a family member or friend in honour of someone special to you?
