We’ve recently welcomed three new residents – Karen, Michael and Mary - to our Customer and Neighbourhoods Committee. And we’re looking for two more enthusiastic Bournville Village Trust tenants to join them! Joining the Committee is a unique opportunity to influence decisions and help shape the future of your neighbourhood. Whether you’re interested in housing quality, repairs, or community development, your experience is what we need! To find out more, follow the link below in comments. Closing date – Monday 14th September 2026.

West Midlands Fire Service need your help:
“We remain extremely busy and need your help:

“🚫 please, no fires you don't need to have - barbecues, bonfires, setting off fireworks

“🚬 dispose of your ci******es correctly - put it out. Right out.

“🗑️ take your rubbish home with you, as sunlight refracted through glass bottles can cause fires.

“Every call we have linked to these incidents could prevent us saving a life.

“Help us to help you. Please.”

As usual Birmingham City Council consult on something really important over the Summer Holidays when people are away, caring for kids or trying to survive the heat. Here it is anyway if you're so inclined!

📢 From TODAY until Thursday 24 September, we will be consulting on the Birmingham Local Plan.

🏙️ This is the final opportunity to comment on the new Local Plan for Birmingham, which will guide development in the city up to 2044.

📄 Copies of the Publication Plan will be available online and from all public libraries across the city.

This is a community asset.

The council are saying it is not.

They are saying that community organisations can bid at auction, but there's no priority being put in place for them 😒

This is being sold at auction soon. They have quoted: "the intention is to not restrict the market" i.e they want as much money as possible from the sale.

This could have designated an Asset of Community Value. Then community organisations could have put together a plan for the building. It would not be sold. It would remain a community asset.

There is a legal process to get this put on the ACV list as an asset of community value - it's very time-limited after the community finds out about it.

If this hurdle is overcome, then there is 12 months to put together a business case to take over the building - a community Asset Transfer (CAT).

I know a community that mounted a phenomenal campaign in Solihull to do such a thing.

Get in touch for more information.

The former Young Offenders Centre on Halescroft Square is going up for auction in September. I wonder what the future holds for the building and how it might affect residents living nearby.
The auction particulars specifically say the property could potentially be used for educational, community or residential purposes, but any change of use would require the appropriate planning consent.
