Burnaid

Burnaid BURNAID is a small local charity that aims to support Burn Survivors and their families at the Burn Centres in Birmingham, UK.

These two Burn Centres are the only two for the West Midlands Region serving a population size of over 10,500,000 and covering a radius of seventy miles around the two Hospitals. To help and assist our patients Burnaid was established as a registered charity (charity number 511446) in the 1980s and is run entirely by Volunteers. Our small Committee is made up of patient representatives and staff from the Burn Centres who give up their time freely to administer our funds.

⚽️⚠️ KEEP CHILDREN SAFE- BUY GENUINE FOOTBALL KITS! ⚠️⚽

It may be tempting to save some money and buy counterfeit sports kits, but did you know they could bring a greater risk of serious burn injuries.

Fake football/sports kits may not meet UK safety standards and can be made from highly flammable materials that catch fire more easily than genuine kits.

How to shop safely:
✅ Buy from official club shops and trusted sports retailers.
✅ Check the product code.
✅ Be cautious of prices that seem too good to be true.
✅ Look for official labels, care instructions and holograms.
✅ Avoid sellers who cannot prove the kit is genuine.

Don't forget, if clothing catches fire:
STOP – Don't run
DROP – Get to the ground
ROLL – Cover the face and roll to extinguish the flames

First aid for burns:
COOL the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
CALL 999 for medical advice
COVER. with cling film or a clean, non-fluffy dressing

Let's work together to keep young football fans safe on and off the pitch. ⚽️❤️

Following a burn injury, scarring becomes an ongoing part of a patient’s recovery journey. Scars can have a significant impact on a person’s appearance, physical and
overall wellbeing. As part of both inpatient and outpatient care, the hospital therapy teams play a key role in supporting patient recovery, offering treatments such as regular scar massage to improve mobility and function. Declan, a QEHB Physiotherapist from the Burns Therapy team, approached Burnaid for support in partially funding specialist training in scar management. We were pleased to help fund this course, knowing how much this training will directly benefit the patients treated by both Declan and any staff he goes forward and shares these skills with. Thank you for the photo and message Declan. If you’d like to share how Burnaid have helped you, send us a message, we’d love to hear from you!

Burnaid have funded various wonderful things this year, from helping patients with requests such as replacing personal items lost in fires, to funding equipment and training for hospital staff.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, have recently reintroduced their Cosmetic Skin Camouflage Clinic. The patients attending can learn the best ways to conceal their scars, blending medical-grade pigmented creams and fixing powders, experimenting and helping them find the right combination of products to suit them. Patients leave with the knowledge of the best techniques to use to achieve their desired result and importantly, this skill in itself can have a huge impact on their confidence.

Burnaid funded a place for one of the Burns Occupational Therapists, to attend specialist training with Changing Faces in order to develop the necessary skills for this clinic. Following this, Burnaid were happy to support the purchase of some of the equipment required for both QEHB and B*H, to get the best out of this clinic and maximise the help offered to our patients.
