This summer, Food for Thought CIC has been working with Fareshare Birmingham at Meriden Adventure Playground Chelmsley Wood, using surplus food alongside our own resources to make what we have go even further.

Alongside providing catering for Birmingham City FC Foundation, Ordinary Magic, and , we’ve been able to extend our support beyond our contracted delivery.

Through our model, we’ve added 2 extra days of food provision each week, supporting care leavers and children accessing MAPA and providing meals for an additional 467 children.

Less waste. More meals. More young people supported.💚

Reflecting on an incredible first week of our Summer HAF programme 👏

What a fantastic start to the holidays!

Over the past week, we’ve watched new friendships form, confidence grow and children throw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and smiles. From getting involved in hands on workshops to enjoying nutritious meals together, every day has been filled with opportunities to learn, laugh and connect

At Food for Thought CIC, HAF is about so much more than keeping children busy during the school holidays. It’s about creating a safe, welcoming environment where every child can feel included, try something new, build confidence and make lasting memories

A huge thank you to everyone who made our first week so special. We can’t wait to welcome even more children throughout the summer and continue creating experiences that make a real difference

A small moment with a big outcome.

Last Friday, Food for Thought CIC had the privilege of catering the Care Experienced Young People’s Summer BBQ at Hatchford Brook Family Hub.

For us, it was never just about serving food. It was about creating a space where conversations could happen, confidence could grow and opportunities could be found.

We’re incredibly proud to say that, as a direct result of the event, we’ve been able to offer employment to one of the young people who attended. That’s exactly what Food for Thought is here to do use hospitality as a pathway into skills, confidence and employment.

A huge thank you to Solihull Council’s Next Steps Team and everyone involved in making the day possible. We look forward to continuing to work together to create opportunities that have a lasting impact.

Food changes lives when it’s served with purpose.

Mayor of joins care-experienced young people for summer BBQ.

The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Sardul Marwa MBE JP, celebrated the ‘successes of care-experienced young people’ at the first summer barbecue at Hatchford Brook Family Hub in .

Last Friday 24 July, the Mayor joined them to enjoy some delicious BBQ food, talk to employment support specialists, and learn new skills like crocheting.

Whilst he was there, the Mayor met with young people from all over Solihull, getting the chance to talk to them about their lives, and how services like the Best Start Family Hubs and Our Voice, Our Services (OVOS) have helped them throughout their time both as children the council care for, and as care-experienced young people starting out in the adult world.

He was also able to speak to the several employment support representatives at the event including Police, Birmingham Airport Partnership, and Solihull College & University Centre.

The Mayor of Solihull spoke about the importance of providing care-experienced young people with high-quality employment support:

“It was fantastic to speak to all the young people at the barbecue, as well as the employment support teams.

“It’s vital for us to provide them with accessible next steps towards employment, especially when it might be their first job.

“Learning new skills and getting that valuable experience early on is essential for young people across Solihull.”

Siobhan Beckford, from ’s Next Steps Team, spoke warmly about the BBQ: “Our first Barbecue was a huge success and is something we want to continue to do annually.

“It’s a great way of bringing people together from all walks of life, celebrating diversity, and sharing their experiences.”

🌞 Great food. Great community. Zero waste.

We had a fantastic time last week at the Dorothy Parkes Centre Summer Fayre, serving up delicious food and connecting with members of the local community

Every meal was created using surplus produce - giving perfectly good ingredients a second chance and showing that reducing food waste doesn’t mean compromising on flavour

At Food for Thought CIC, we’re passionate about creating nutritious, affordable meals while promoting more sustainable ways of cooking and eating, while ultimately sharing the impact good food can have on our mental and physical wellbeing

A big thank you to everyone and the continued support we receive. We loved being part of such a brilliant community event!
