Leadership sometimes appears in unexpected ways...
Not through speeches or publicity, but through consistent effort over time.

For more than fifty years, Abdul Karim Saqib has worked in education and community development, eventually leading to the creation of residential education programmes for disadvantaged students.

Through Al-Hijrah Schools Trust, hundreds of young people are now pursuing higher education.
Perhaps the most powerful legacy is opportunity.

A question for everyone reading this:

Can one person truly change the future of hundreds of children?

The story of Abdul Karim Saqib suggests the answer might be yes.

From humble beginnings in rural Pakistan, he dedicated his life to education and community reform.

Today through Al‑Hijrah Schools Trust:

• Hundreds of students receive fully funded education
• More than 500 alumni have graduated
• Many are now doctors, engineers, and professionals

Students from some of the most underserved regions of Pakistan are studying in universities like:

• National University of Sciences and Technology
• Quaid‑e‑Azam University

All because someone believed that education can break the cycle of poverty.

So here is the question:

If you had the power to change one thing in the world through education, what would it be?

Write your answer in the comments.

Let’s start a meaningful conversation.

Alhamdulillah. I remain deeply grateful for the honour of being recognised with the Sitara e Imtiaz for services in education. While this acknowledgement carries my name, in truth it belongs to everyone who believed in this mission through thick and thin.

The Al Hijrah movement began in Birmingham in the United Kingdom with a vision of education rooted in three values Insaaniyat Islamiyet and Pakistaniyat. That vision later found its practical expression in Pakistan when Al Hijrah Residential School and College was established in the highlands of Ziarat to serve children from the most neglected communities.

From those early and uncertain days many sincere friends colleagues students well wishers and supporters stood with us and trusted that education could transform lives. The progress and achievements of our students today are the real fruit of that collective belief effort and prayers.

I humbly dedicate this honour to all those who walked with us on this journey and to the generations of students who continue to inspire us to serve with sincerity and perseverance.

(Note: The Sitara e Imtiaz Award was announced on 23 March 2025 by the President of Pakistan and today on my behalf our student and current principal Al-Hijrah Ziarat Campus, Shabbir Ahmed Barech received the award from Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Governor of Balochistan.)

Regards,

Br. Abdul Karim Saqib
