Just now reflecting on our wonderful residency in Pellinge (Finland), developing international partners and community collaborations for our new gig theatre project which explores the joys & challenges of island life. Going in the winter was very different to being there at Midsommar last year. The sun came up very late and went down very early… but it was still so very beautiful. Chilly, but, as locals pointed out, not as chilly as it should have been at that time of year…
Our R+D work included lots of fika (coffee and cake and conversation) - here is Gerda sharing stories and memories - with some glorious impromptu singing!
Thanks to WMCA International Fund for getting us there.
More to come…

🕵🏼🔎 Have you heard about the new, FREE interactive, online spy thriller game A Moment of Madness: On Demand from our friends at The Other Way Works?

It fuses compelling drama with real-time gameplay and is the perfect opportunity to put your arm-chair detective skills to good use!

You’ll set out on a covert spy mission from the comfort of your own home. As an undercover MI5 field agent, you’ll stake-out a multi storey car park via CCTV, hunt down facts, solve Escape Game style puzzles and gather evidence to expose a network of corruption.

Oh, and who knows you might even recognise a familiar face?! 😜 So grab your mates and some snacks and play for FREE this weekend - link here: https://bit.ly/PlayAMOMNow

After the brilliant weekend we've just had in Bournville we're delighted that Wanlov the Kubolor is continuing to be involved with Birmingham 2022 for a little while longer by taking part in the British Council's 'Exchange Rate – Internationalism & Exchange' tomorrow Tuesday 12 July at 10-11am and 6-7pm UK time. 🇬🇭🇬🇧

Along with Alyson Joyce (Artivist, Papua New Guinea & Australia) and Michael Walling (Artistic Director, Border Crossings, UK), plus others the panel will discuss:

❓What is the value of international collaboration?
❓What makes a fair exchange?
❓How do we decolonise cultural practice?

Why not join Wanlov and the panel for the two unique sessions exploring and learning about the opportunities and challenges of cultural exchange across nations?

We’ve had such a wonderful time this weekend! ☺️ 🎉 🤩

Bournville you have been amazing embracing ChocFest and joining us for our performances, activities and delicious chocolate treats in and around Bournville Village Trust Green.

We’re so sad that is our last performance of the weekend, but delighted with all of the wonderful comments you have shared with us – including this lovely one from Kat:

“We saw your show today and I thought it handled complex issues really well with sensitivity, understanding and optimism. Very brave work, right outside the factory too, well done 👏👏👏”

Hope you can join us at 4.30pm for our final performance of the day and help us see ChocFest out in style before we head to Attic Brew Co. for some more delicious ChocFest beers to cool us down and celebrate the end of a fabulous weekend!

Before we sign off we must say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us create ChocFest. None of it would have been possible without our generous and brilliant collaborators, performers, Bournville Village Primary School and Deikrom D/A Primary School in Ghana, the Amankwatia Cooperative Society Cocoa Farmers, workshop leaders, photographers and filmmakers, LEAF Creative Arts CIC Memory Café, Rowheath House Crunch Writers, our funders, our production company Opus, not to mention the local businesses who have supported us and all of the people behind the scenes that worked with us – there are many to mention by name, but they are all listed in our ChocFest trail map, so please have a read, (it’s on our website if you haven’t got your own printed version - see link below) and join us in thanking them for all of their hard work, commitment and passion for ChocFest.

And finally, to you our audiences and participants – thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we are feeling truly humble and blessed! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
